Since the revolution in Cairo the number of tourists has dropped dramatically and a terrible consequence of this is that few tourists are viewing the Pyramids in the traditional way; by horseback or horse drawn carriage. There are now as many as 500 horses literally starving to death,'breathing skeletons' some of these horses were already in poor condition to begin with and this petition is two fold.
1. In the short term these horses need feeding
2. Regulations and Licenses need to be used and enforced to make sure horses are only allowed to be in work if they are kept to a required welfare standard.
Tourism has moved on and is becoming more and more 'responsible' and global awareness of animals kept in poor and unhealthy conditions means that countries risk being shunned for such inhumane practises. Healthy, well cared for horses are a far bigger attraction and therefore, money making opportunity, than beaten down, starved and lame horses.

We the undersigned want you to recognise the need to legislate and license the Pyramid Horse trading area and make sure that only stables with horses in good condition are used for working purposes. This situation is catching the eyes of the world and with 'responsible tourism' becoming the watchword on everyones lips the sight of these pitiful animals does nothing to enhance Egypts reputation as a place to visit.
You have a superb opportunity here to turn this catastrophy into a marketing exercise that shows the world that Egyptian tourism is moving with the times and to encourage people back to the pyramids. With a number of British and Australian journalists currently writing about the horrific situation whereby some 500 of these sad pitiful animals are literally starving to death, now is a great time for you to step forward and show compassion and heart. To be proud again of your wonderfal country and show the world you can take care of your beautiful animals, as well as your amazing ancient archeological heritage.
Please start to make the simple changes that will forever change the lives of these wonderful noble animals and bring the tourists back to your Pyramids.
Thank you verty much for taking the time to read our request, we look forward to your earliest convenient reply.
Keep up the great work. Look what you've accomplished!
