Stop Dogfighting Now!

Dog fighting is a cruel and brutal practice. The abuses are so gruesome that even experienced investigators are shocked by what they discover at dog fighting raids.

For the sake of human profit, the dogs are trained to kill. To ensure their aggression dogs are beaten, chained and fed gunpowder, illegal drugs and even live animals -- and sometimes they are not fed at all for long periods of time. In the end, dogs that do not win are either killed or left to die horrific and painful deaths.

The Federal Dog Protection Act addresses these issues of cruelty, providing much needed protection to the animals that are pulled into this barbaric blood sport. This bill is necessary to adequately punish anyone who not only operates and engages in, but also attends and otherwise supports, dog-fighting events. In addition, the bill bans the use of the U.S. Postal Service to mail dog fighting paraphernalia and has a civil suit provision.

Dear Representative [Last Name]:

As your constituent and a supporter of the American Humane Association, I urge you to support HR 3327, the Federal Dog Protection Act, to end dog fighting.

Reps. Elton Gallegly (R-CA) and Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) recently introduced this legislation, which mimics the pending Dog Fighting Prohibition Act of 2007 (S 1880/HR 3219) in that it would make it a federal offense subject to a maximum 5 years' imprisonment to sponsor, train dogs for, watch or otherwise participate in a dogfight. HR 3327 adds two more critical components: 1) specifically banning the use of the U.S. Postal Service to mail dog fighting paraphernalia and 2) allowing animal control agencies, humane societies and state societies for the prevention of cruelty to animals (SPCAs) to file civil suits to stop individuals from engaging in and promoting dog fighting ventures.

This legislation would have a profound impact on the ability of federal prosecutors and agents to punish those who engage in this heinous blood sport.

Losing a dog could be like losing a famliy member to some dog owners. Most of the time the owners fighting the dog steals another dog from a random famliy. most likely the dog wont get returned and might even be killed. DOG FIGHTING NEEDS TO BE STOPED NOW!

Tell me, how do you put into words why dog fighting should be stopped? The very question is absurd. Why someone would hurt a helpless animal is beyond me. Hurting anything is disturbing and inhumane. It leads to further abusive practices. Dogs are the most loving animals and deserve to be treated with the same love that they give to others. This sick behavior must not be tolerated!

It is barbaric to participate in any manner with any "bloody" sport and when it involves slave animals it becomes proof of evil. Laws should be created,promoted and upheld not only to punish and deter these bloody nightmares but also to educate people to deter them from these dark entertainments by "force". The only way to stop dog-fighting is to stop the back yard breeders. If your not a reliable, registered breeder, you should not be able to sell puppies. All cats and dogs should be spayed or neutered. There are millions of wonderful pets killed each year. Let's be smart about this and nip it in the bud. Ban the breeders not the breed.

Dogs are living things They have feelings and are probably more sensitive than you and i. Abusing a dog to me is like abusing an infant because dogs cant speak and tell you how bad they are hurt and if someone is hurting them, they cant tell you if they are cold or hungry or scared. I own Pit Bulls and am horrified about dog fighting. These sweet gentle dogs are destroyed/broken down by irresponsible owners and fight because it's what their owners demand of them. Pits fight out of love for the very people who hurt them. Stop the fighting, fight against bans on this breed and start using you influence to help these poor dogs. Show people what they really are about....love, loyalty and kindness.

It must be stopped because dogs are a living organism. Dogs are living organisms, just like us humans. Congress, how would you feel if you had a dog and one day it got killed from a very random stranger. I'm sure you would care because the dog was your pet, and you cared for it, fed it, and also it cared for you. It loved you, and protect you.
