Our government needs to meet the diverse educational needs of all American children. It is time to select a Secretary of Education who values and supports alternative education opportunities like public charter schools.
Children need flexibility because they have individual learning needs. But traditional public schools have strict regulations that hinder a teacher's ability to adopt successful alternative teaching strategies. Public charter schools offer students a variety of teaching styles that can respond to children's specific needs.
Parents, teachers and students of public charter schools all have high satisfaction with public charter schools. Compared to public schools, public charter schools graduate more students with better GPAs. But because of state caps and lack of sufficient funding, public charter schools make up only 3 percent of all public schools in the U.S.
Tell President-Elect Obama to choose a Secretary of Education who recognizes the importance of public charter schools as successful alternative education.
We took action on “Don't Let Government Fail to Educate Our Children”!

My teachers were lazy. They had their favorites and that was that. I would never make a teacher feel good because I don't like brown nosers. The books were made to buy more. Neuter and spay.

I was in a public school system for about two years. It was one of the down points of my life. The teachers there weren't accommodating of my special needs and I literally learned the same thing year after year due to a limited cirriculum. The situation hasn't chaged much and if anything, it's gotten a lot worse. We need to give children a good education to brighten our future.

In the penfield school district i had an IEP starting in 4th grade. However the district implemented techniques that did not work for me. However in 6th grade i was able to receive the support i needed. I was lucky. Please help all the other students who don't get the support they need.

Sadly it seems as if our teachers do not have the time or ability to teach the "unteachable" children in our public schools. I have a fifteen year old daughter who has an IEP but is still going unnoticed by her teachers. She got all Fs for her entire 9th grade year! When I ask her why she doesn't ask for help she says I did they explained once, I still didn't understand, they stopped trying. As a result I have a fifteen year old who is unable to count money, unable to get a job, and has little to no understaning of the drivers manual she is trying to study so she can her her lic. Please, help children like my daughter. Without education it is hard for them to function in this society. I will tell you my daughter has had some severe depression and self hate issues as a result of her being "stupid". My heart breaks everry day!

Please follow through on your promise, so that government payments for charter school students match those paid to state school students, as soon as possible.
I would like my children to be able to reach their full educational potential & be able to give back to their county when they are adults.
Currently, the various but extremely limited gifted programs at state schools do not encourage & challenge my children. I want them to love school & education & not become so bored that they eventually drop-out.
Thank you.

Public schools are running a muck. Unchecked, with the public virtually unable to hold them accountable, and no one in government really stepping up to protect our children in need.
Currently public schools are shoving children with special education needs, and others aside, allowing and in some cases even suggesting these children fall through the cracks, don't belong in school, and/or should drop out, while they focus funding on more AP classes for children already excelling. Is it to promote higher test scores for the schools and reflect the schools in a faux better light?
Choosing to educate only those easily educable is not an option.
Their actions to date are reprehensible. Swift change is needed to educate ALL of our youth.

My concern is that the Sec. of Education knows that and belive that Early Childhood Education is also important for are children.

Individual needs are being stifled because public schools do not allow for individualized teaching methods. This is not in the best interest of our children.

My husband is a 3rd grade teacher here in Big Rapids, Mi. The class room is so small there is no possibility for small group teaching and no $$ for para pros in the class room. There is only one computer in each class room and no librarian in the school this year due to cuts. Several of his students need individual or small group attention in
math as they are truly struggling. He loves his young students and the profession he is in and his students love him.
No child left behind has put pressure on teachers to
teach to the test and makes it impossible to spend much needed time on enrichment material forcing academic material too early. i.e. kindergarten and first grade. Please adhere to your promises and give the much needed funds to our schools.
