Target:Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi Sponsored by:Sierra Club
Despite the loud rhetoric coming from Newt Gingrich and the pro-drilling crowd, we can't drill our way out of our energy problems.
The truth is that the U.S. sits on less than 3 percent of the world's oil reserves. Even if we drill every corner of America, the oil will only amount to a drop in the bucket and won't have an impact on prices.
Big Oil is trying to call the shots but there are better solutions like strong fuel economy standards and renewable energy. It's important we continue to tell Nancy Pelosi and Congress to stand firm and bring these solutions to Americans.
Will you sign the petition and thank Nancy Pelosi for standing up to Big Oil?
Not only will more drilling simply line the pockets of Big Oil which is already raking in record profits, it simply won't solve our problems:
The Government's Energy Information Administration estimates it would take around a decade to get new oil online, and would not significantly reduce gas prices.
The number of new offshore drilling permits has tripled while the Bush administration has been in office and yet we're also paying triple what we were in 2001.
Speaker Pelosi is taking drilling supporters to task for holding up clean energy solutions and trying to force a vote on what she rightly calls a "hoax." She needs to hear from you that you want her to continue moving America forward with sensible energy policies.
We took action on “Clean Energy, Not Drilling - Tell Congress”!

Dear Nancy Pelosi,
Sierra Club supporters would like to thank you, Nancy Pelosi, for standing up to Big Oil. We understand that we can't drill our way out of this problem because we have less than 3 percent of the world's oil reserves. America can't waste time on proposals that only benefit the Big Oil companies who're already raking in record profits.
We need sensible solutions now for consumer relief, stronger fuel economy standards, and real investment in energy efficiency and clean, renewable energy.
Sincerely,
Allie Warnick

If we know that we will need to change our energy products in the future, we might as well do it now. Why waste time and money?

Continue to stand up to Big Oil. The facts speak for themselves. It really is a no-brainer. I'd like for my children and grandchild to someday have a world that relies on clean, renewable energy... a world where the Big Oil Barons no longer hold all of the cards.

This is soundly overdue. We have a commitment to future generations for a stonger, virile existance. We need you, now more than ever, to encourage incentives for mass alternative energy application. Thank you.

No drilling Congress!!! I ask you to please try to reverse the damage that has already been caused to earth rather than adding add to it.

Big Oil could be using their wide knowledge in finding better means to renewable energy if they could restrict their greed for more money.
