No Nuclear Bailouts: Stop the Cuomo Tax

Illinois-based nuclear energy giant Exelon has annual revenues of more than $34 billion. Yet, Governor Andrew Cuomo sees fit to add to their coffers. On April 1, he authorized a rate hike for New Yorkers' energy bills so Exelon can bail out its old, unprofitable nuclear energy plants that are dangerous for our health an our environment.

This rate hike will cost us nearly one billion dollars in the first two years alone, which is an average of $1.32 million dollars a day. In just the first month, we're already out $40 million dollars.

For that sum, we could have hired 570 teachers, given out over 9 million free lunches to NYC students, hired 1,770 NYC firefighters, installed solar power on the roofs of 2,400 New York state homes, built 1,020 two-bedroom units of affordable housing in New York City, forgiven the student loan debt of roughly 1,230 New Yorkers . . . the list goes on!

Our money should be spent to improve New Yorkers' lives, not line the pockets of out-of-state executives at wealthy corporations. Cuomo can still stop the tax, but he needs to hear from you. Sign the petition to tell Governor Cuomo to say no to this expensive bailout.
