We, the Undersigned, endorse the following petition:

No to HR 1022, "Assault Weapons Ban"

Target: Timothy Johnson, Representative, U.S. House of Representatives
Sponsor: Josh McNattin
  • Signatures: 46,042
  • Goal: 1,000,000
  • Deadline: 5-22-2008
The attempt to renew and augment the expired federal "assault weapons ban", HR 1022, will not be tolerated.

This is NOT the cosmetic bill from the Clinton era and does NOT include
a sunset expiration, this one DOES ban many more guns, not just
features, going so far as to ban WWII era rifles such as the M1 Garand
and semi-automatic shotguns.  Do your homework, learn about the details and contact your representative, act locally, raise awareness.

This petition and it's author is in no way affiliated with the
ACLU.  I am an honorably discharged Marine, gun owner and rifle
range member.  The host website is by charter a
non-partisan site, though they do carry many left leaning
petitions.  If that makes you uncomfortable, start some right
leaning ones and get people on board.

I've been informed that an embedded questionaire is asking for personal information such as "number of children in household".  These are not
questions that I opted to be included and should not be required to sign the petition.

46,142 3:40 am PST, Dec 29   Brett Worley 27 Male Maryland 21921 Assault weapons or sporting weapons, where does the line get drawn? I'd rather have no regulation than ignorant lawmakers telling me what is an assault weapon and what is not.
46,141 10:00 am PST, Dec 28   Gregory Brewer 55 Male New Mexico 87121 The Congress does not have the Constitutional authority to pass such a law. Which would render it illegimate from it's passing. The right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. One definition of infringe is, "to change or modify in any manner". This 2nd Amendment right is "Sacred" and "Inalienable" in the hearts and minds of Americans. It was never intended for "sporting purposes" or "hunting", it was intended to enable us to resist the tyranny that would steal our freedoms and subvert our Constitutional rights. As a matter of fact, for instances such as this. Your oath of office requires you to support and defend the Constitution, not "Change, Modify,Disregard and Subvert it's garanteed rights. To borrow a "Chic "phrase of the day, the Democratic party's "Inconvienent Truth" is, that the Consttution is what governs our country, not them. The American people only entrusted your majority with temporary stewardship of the Constitution, not the power to disregard and rewrite it as you see fit. Do so, at you own politcal peril.

46,137 6:42 am PST, Dec 18 Mr. mark carpenter 0 Male Virginia 23455 We The People are now looked at as we the mindless sheep of the elite. The Bill of Rights is eroding away at a pace beyond comprehension but in the name of "what is best for society" as determined by the few. Gun rights, personal property rights, the Federal Reserve destroying our currency even though it has been fake money since the gold standard was destroyed. Being sold out by the lie of man made global warming, where does it end? It doesn't and it won't until enough people become educated and not by govt. education. The founding fathers warned of this with great fear. May GOD save the REPUBLIC .

46,135 8:10 am PST, Dec 10 Mrs. Lindsay Nelson 32 Female Pennsylvania 19056 They are infringing, by even talks of. Our policys are creating reseantment! I am tired of the Lawyers wipeing their ass with our rights just to entertain thoughts of: to pussy people, and Utopians. for money and power. Pussys need to move to England. I value my life and property no one has the right to violate. People here want Revolution. We are not stupid, I witnessed our flags being turned upside down at a gas station by Arabs, I have seen so much crime and Villiany. I think our government needs an enima. and a restart button. There is no but,........in the right to bear arms! assholes! Open back up the Mental Institutions, for Christ sake, stop subjigateing good peoples rights to hunt etc! that is just plain stupid. There is too many mentals, The one who flew over the coo coo's nest is running our government by allowing mentals to exist among normal people! The reactionaries are pussys and stupid they do not belong in government. Government needs a Theripiest for the sins they are makeing against its own people! I say People in government should be charged with Treason, for subjecting the rights of the people! and not being honest about the real truth behind our rights!

46,133 2:24 pm PST, Dec 4 Mr. Jacob Bradley Turner 25 Male Kansas 67211 I feel that the previous AWB was ludicrous and that the reasons given for introducing a new Ban are even more insane. This WILL NOT help Mexico. More illegal weapons flow INTO America FROM Mexico, not the other way around. If Mexico has that big of a problem with the cartels, perhaps we should send thirty or forty thousand troops down there, instead of adding to Afghanistan. Mexico's a lot closer to home, after all. But restricting the constitutional rights of the citizens of this fine country to "assist" Mexico, is entirely mad. I would like it noted that I support the Obama Administration in EVERY OTHER aspect. But this is a HUGE problem for me. Thank you.
46,132 10:46 am PST, Nov 29 Mr. Anonymous 19 Male   10245 Weapons should be banned completely because a weapon can never protect people. It can only cause harm.
46,131 5:18 pm PST, Nov 19   Darryl Sean Brown 36 Male California 92704 Please vote "NO" on HR 1022
46,130 7:45 am PST, Nov 16 Mr. David Miller 29 Male Wisconsin 53549 Determining all semi automatic weapons to be assault weapons is unreasonable and certainly a misunderstanding of the definition of an assault weapon. Most sniper rifles are bolt action and bolt action is still highly preferred for long range high accuracy applications including hunting and long range target shooting. As seen in the assassination of JFK a semi automatic weapon is not the only way to fire rapidly and accurately. I certainly see no reason for a civilian to own a fully automatic machine gun other than the fun factor of shooting one, rather like the unpractical nature of owning a ferrari. If someone were to drive a car into a crowd of people no one would blame the car. there have been evil men since the dawn of time. There will always be evil men. There will always be ways for us to kill each other (incidentally there are laws against that but i dont think that the laws existence ever stopped a murder from happening). The government of the united states of america came into being only because of the armed populace that rose up to create and then defend it. The constitution of this great nation was enacted to protect the rights of the citizens. Evil people have never been stopped by laws, criminals will not obey laws, otherwise they would not be criminals. I grew up in Britain where it was most difficult to obtain a firearm legally, and then it became illegal to own a handgun. Despite this violent crime is an enormous and ever increasing problem. Please do not begin to reinterpret and demolish the bill of rights and constitution. Removing a peoples right to self defence one piece at a time serves only to place them in greater danger from those who do not care about the law. This is not a partisan vote, this is a vote for or against the very articles upon which this nation was founded. Please vote no to this and all future attempts to remove handguns, rifles and shotguns from the law abiding citizens of these united states.

46,122 10:38 am PDT, Oct 15 Mrs. Natalie Roberts 36 Female Tennessee 37013 The Constitution was written in a particular way to stop the King of England or "ANYONE" from taking the Rights of the People away. This ban, regardless of who or what you believe in, is going against the principles that this Great Nation was founded on. The people have the right and the responsiblity to stand up for their rights and declare yo the so called Representatives that were voted in by us that they are WRONG. We all have to make our voices heard. Here is my VOICE.
46,121 7:43 am PDT, Oct 15 Mr. Anonymous 21 Male New York 14522 I live in New York State, which is notorious for almost completely discouraging anyone from owning any type of gun and making it unreasonably difficult to get a pistol permit. Unfortunatly for them, I own many guns and will keep adding and there's no way they can stop it. Passing this ban would be a fatal flaw on the government's part because more dumb restrictions could quite possably lead down the dark road to another American Revolution.

46,106 4:44 pm PDT, Sep 6   Anonymous 0 Male Texas 77656 This is another failed attempt at trying to get guns from the criminals and a successful attempt to disarm citizens. No to HR 1022, "Assault Weapons Ban"

We the undersigned wish to express in no uncertain terms our outrage and disgust with the introduction of HR 1022: To reauthorize the assault weapons ban, and for other purposes.  Let it be known, that we the undersigned swear an undying devotion to end the political careers of any public servant holding office who should dare to offer any support to this offense to our birthright to take up arms to defend our lives, our families, our property, our community and our country against enemies both foreign and domestic.  We see it as absolutely essential that we retain our right, which is not granted to us by man nor able to be repealed, to maintain, keep, bear and train with firearms and ammunitions that are state of the art.  HR 1022, or any bill resembling, is an affront to this right and our dignity as citizens of this fair nation and will not be tolerated.  We are watching.
