Support a Permanent Cease-fire in Gaza

The current crisis in Gaza has injured or killed hundreds of civilians on both sides of the conflict. And there's no sign yet of it slowing -- even a brief cease-fire during a diplomatic visit from the Egyptian Prime Minister was quickly shattered by rockets and airstrikes.

Despite promises from each country to take precautions to avoid populated areas, hundreds of children have been hurt. Even an 11-month-old named Omar Misharawi wasn't safe -- he was killed when his home was struck during an Israeli air strike.

President Obama has reportedly been working with Middle Eastern leaders to establish a permanent cease-fire. But other countries, including Britain and Turkey, have taken a more prominent stance on stopping the conflict immediately. Why can't we follow their leads?

Please sign the petition to thank President Obama for his work so far, and urge him to ramp up his efforts to de-escalate the immediate crisis and to implement a permanent two-state solution in Gaza.
Thank you for your continued efforts toward achieving a cease-fire in Gaza. I am writing to urge you to increase these measures even more, so that the continued deaths of hundreds of children and civilians can come to an end.

America has reportedly "taken the sideline" when it comes to demanding a cease-fire in Gaza. Though your calls to foreign leaders are important, we cannot underestimate the political weight of the United States when it comes to dramatic policy changes. The cease-fire didn't stay in place for Egypt's Prime Minister -- but perhaps it will work for us.

Please continue to work to de-escalate the immediate crisis in Gaza. Additionally, I urge you to partner with leaders in the region to implement a two-state solution as soon as possible -- so that no more children and civilians will have to suffer from their leaders' mistakes.
