Make Ending Violence Against Women A Worldwide Priority

  • by: CARE Canada
  • recipient: The Honourable Prime Minister Stephen Harper
Women and girls are the most vulnerable people around the world. They represent up to 70 percent of the people living in poverty. One billion women will be victims of violence in their lifetimes.

Violence is both a cause and effect of poverty. It leaves physical and emotional scars. Moreover, all violence against women and girls, including female genital mutilation and rape, are unacceptable violations of human rights.

Sign the petition to call upon the Government of Canada to bring domestic and international attention to the issue of violence against women and girls and to make ending such violence a worldwide priority.
We, the undersigned, draw the attention of The Honorable Prime Minister Harper to the following:

- THAT, violence is both a cause and effect of poverty.

- THAT, one billion women will be victims of violence in their lifetime.

- THAT, all violence against women and girls, including female genital mutilation, is an unacceptable violation of human rights.

THEREFORE, we call upon the Government of Canada to bring domestic and international attention to the issue of violence against women and girls and to make ending such violence a worldwide priority.
