Reject Keystone XL 2.0

Keystone XL is back.

TransCanada, the energy giant trying to bisect the United States with a reckless tar-sands pipeline, has submitted a new application to build Keystone XL.

TransCanada rerouted the pipeline through Nebraska, but the new routes come with the same kind of dangerous consequences: dozens of projected spills and leaks, staggering greenhouse gas emissions and threats to rare and endangered species like whooping cranes, piping plovers and American burying beetles.

After massive public outcry, President Obama rightly rejected Keystone XL in January.

It's time again to make sure this disastrous project doesn't get off the ground.

Please, take action to tell the State Department that Keystone XL should get scrapped permanently.
Subject: Reject TransCanada's New Proposal for Keystone XL

The Keystone XL pipeline would transport one of the world's dirtiest fossil fuels, tar-sands oil, across major bodies of water like the Missouri, Yellowstone and Platte rivers, and the Ogallala Aquifer. From beginning to middle to end, this pipeline poses serious danger to our wildlife and natural world.

Extracting oil from tar sands is already devastating Canada's boreal forest wildlife and wetlands that serve as breeding grounds for migratory birds. A spill along the pipeline's route would devastate water supplies and wildlife and endanger public health. Finally, when it reaches its intended refineries on the Gulf of Mexico, it will add greenhouse gases that the world's leading climate scientists warn we cannot burn and maintain a safe climate.

Although the State Department has admitted that Keystone XL would result in dozens of spills and leaks along its route, the department has never fully analyzed the full range of Keystone XL's environmental consequences. It's time for this ill-conceived pipeline project to be denied, and a new, rigorous analysis should be conducted by the State Department of its unacceptable risks to clean air, water, wildlife and the safety of future generations.

Thank you.
