Support Tennessee Wilderness and Protect Our Wildlife and Outdoor Heritage

For the fourth time in eight years, Senators Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker have introduced the Tennessee Wilderness Act, a common-sense piece of legislation that would forever safeguard wild places in the Cherokee National Forest.

Wilderness designation would protect vibrant populations of fish and game including brook trout, black bears, wild turkeys, and white-tailed deer. This designation would also support the local economy by preserving the quality of life that communities depend on to attract individuals and business will also providing valuable recreation opportunities.

The Senate Agriculture Committee considered the bill last July, but it has seen no Senate action since then. It's time for Tennessee's senators to do everything they can to move wilderness forward!

Tennesseans have waited long enough for this special place to be given the protection it deserves so it can be preserved for future generations. Our economy depends on it, our wildlife will be better for it, and our outdoor heritage will thrive because of it.

Sign today and urge Senators Alexander and Corker to continue to work toward Tennessee wilderness designation in 2016.
Dear Senators Alexander and Corker,

I was excited to read the news that your Tennessee Wilderness Act now has companion legislation in the House of Representatives. Dr. Phil Roe’s companion measure puts this bill in a place where it has not been for four Congresses. I believe that we must act this year if we are to protect vibrant populations of fish and game (including brook trout, black bears, wild turkeys, and white-tailed deer) and honor Tennessee’s outdoor heritage of hunting, fishing, hiking, and paddling.

As you know, your bill was heard by the Senate Agriculture Committee on July 16 last year. I urge you to contact committee leadership about marking up the legislation as soon as possible. Hunters, anglers, backpackers, paddlers, and local businesses have waited long enough for this special place to be given the protection it deserves so it can be passed on to future generations.

Wilderness designation will support the local economy by preserving the quality of life that communities depend on to attract individuals and business, and it will provide valuable recreation opportunities.

I hope you will talk to the Senate Agriculture Committee leadership soon. Our economy depends on it, our wildlife will be better for it, and our outdoor heritage will thrive because of it. Thank you.
