Wigs are a vital prosthesis to cancer patients not cosmetic

Dear State represenitives, We the undersigned request that wigs for cancer patients be considered a prostehsis and not a cosmetic item, And should be covered by state and federal insurance programs.

Cancer is a leading cause of death, leaving devistation to many familys and friends loseing their loved ones. Chemotherapy and Radiation treatments cause the patients to lose their hair. Causing depression, and  loss of self esteem. And In many cases causes the cancer patient to abandon treatment because they dont want to suffer the humility of losing their hair. Especially children and women.  It is especially hard for the children because they are teased and tormented by other children who dont understand the illness or treatment.  A wig may be a vanity item to someone who just wants to change their looks. But cancer patients have no choice, Its go bald or die. Treatment for cancer is very hard, chemo  usually is on a weekly bases and radiation is a daily treatment. I say let our tax dollars pay for a little vanity for those who deserve it and  are fighting for their life.  Government programs pay for breast prostehisis So that a woman can lead a somewhat normal life and work in public and be accepted as a normal human being. Isn't hair just as important. Yes there are programs that will help  patients get wigs. But It is degrading to the cancer patient to be told your  insurance will not cover it , But A cancer survivour  has donated one for you. Or someone has  cut off their hair and donated it so that you can have a wig. If these people care enough to take that extra step to see to it someone has a wig, And care enough about the patient to donate their hair and time and effort to make the wig , Why is it that the state wont?  I beg of you on behalf of the thousands of people worldwide to change the wig from a cosmetic item to a prostethsis that is medically nessesary in the well being ,treatment and recovery of our cancer patiens. Self esteem and pride Go a long way in helping to beat the depression caused by cancer. Depression is an illness treated daily by doctors all over the world and  state programs pay for those treatments, And I dont know of anyone with cancer that does not have depression daily. Lets alleviate a little depression for them by granting them some self esteem and added support.
