An institution in Liberia that conducted experiments on approximately 200 chimpanzees have abandoned over 60 who are still alive, leaving them to die of starvation.
The chimps now live on secluded islands near the country’s capital, Monrovia.
The medical center made a commitment to provide them with lifelong care but then took back that promise, leaving the chimps to perish slowly.
The New York Blood Center, which tested treatments and vaccines on the great apes at a medical research center in Liberia from 1974 to 2006 have cut its $30,000/month funding. A few of the chimps' caretakers have been providing food purchased with money from private donors as well as fresh water. This is obviously only short term. The chimps are dependent on human care for sustenance.
Lets call on those responsible to give these chimps the life they deserve. The chimps will most definitely die if funding isnt resumed. They owe it to them after a life of living in a lab and being tested on.
