|---|---|---|---|---|
| 99 | 4:39 pm PDT, Sep 13 | Ms. | Anonymous | Are we overrun with deer? Yes. Are bears frequently sighted in populated areas? Yes. This happens because we are taking more and more of their natural habitat. Time to stop! |

| 91 | 12:02 pm PST, Jan 3 | Mr. | Perris Straughter | It is irresponsible to destroy natural habitats when development is better placed elsewhere and development is sorely needed in NJ's cities and first-ring suburbs. |

| 84 | 4:27 pm PDT, Sep 22 | Ms. | BONNIE BARFIELD | |
| 83 | 11:53 am PDT, Sep 19 | Carl Propst | Because commercial developments should not be allowed to build in wildlife areas that are already being overcrowded by people encroaching on nature's inhabitants. | |
| 82 | 9:04 am PDT, Aug 28 | Linda Bonura | ||
| 81 | 8:41 pm PDT, Jul 22 | Christina Sott | It is obvious that we have to protect our environment, nature and animals, at least to survive ourselves if we can' t do it for other reasons. The lucrative tendency to errect more and more NEW houses for those who can afford it instead of restaurating the ones which are already there is fatal. Again it will be hard work to find solutions for much money and status are involved, but we must proceed that way for the better of all. | |

| 77 | 5:19 pm PDT, Jun 8 | Ms. | Constance Ashby | I grew up in New Jersey and went to school in this area. I spent some of my teeanage years in Lake Rogerine. You could walk around the lake in 15-20 minutes. Me my sister and brothers learned to swim in the lake. We spent time with our grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins at Lake Rogerine. I have a family history there. The last time I was in Jersey my dad took me there. It was a memory lane visit. The house, schools I went to, grade school and highschool. And more. Now My childhood memories are going to be destroyed? Leave us something to remember will ya!!! Does every place that is still natural have to be turned into cement and stone? Come on here people. Let's leave something for our children and grandchildren to enjoy. |

| 73 | 11:08 am PDT, May 7 | Mr. | frankie evenson | |
| 72 | 11:07 am PDT, May 3 | Anonymous | Too much building, without planning. We need small walkable communities, not more urban sprawl, needing even more gas guzzling vehicles to make our lives possible. | |

| 70 | 3:34 pm PDT, May 2 | Anonymous | ||
| 69 | 11:50 am PDT, Apr 28 | Mr. | Nick McCracken | The future of america cannot posibly survive if we continue developing like we are now. People are sorry and greedy. I hate subdivider for what they have done to me and my life. |

| 67 | 7:00 pm PDT, Apr 21 | David Dunkleberger | ||
| 66 | 2:12 pm PDT, Apr 21 | Nikki Swanson | i am oposed because everything has a right to live and these animals have been around longer than us. So by our speices doing this is a discrace also trees give oxygen, without oxygen how are humans going to live. Its like these people are trying to kill themselves by doing what they are. Nature is something that should be enjoyed and observed not torn down by distructive people that have nothing better to do. How about they do them selves a favor and go get a real and more enviromentally safe job!!~~ | |
| 65 | 2:05 pm PDT, Apr 19 | Ms. | Anonymous | It is wrong to destroy what is nature if there are buildings to be redeveloped. Also, what if someone destroyed your home, how would you feel? |

| 55 | 5:06 pm PST, Feb 8 | Kimberly Wright | ||
| 54 | 9:20 am PST, Dec 13 | Elizabeth Marcus | Once you destroy nature, particularly previously protected forests, it can't grow back the way it was. You have already killed off the wildlife that lived there, some of which may include endangered species. Plus, you stress the environment, messing up the watertable, etc. | |
| 53 | 10:21 am PST, Dec 9 | Mr. | Steven Schwartz | Urban sprawl must be contained in areas such as NJ and PA |
| 52 | 6:00 pm PST, Nov 29 | Amy Kupperman | I recently moved here from Essex Cty to, what I thought would be, a more rural area. I had been told no more building in this area was allowed. I have already seen deer and bears, because there is no place for them to go anymore. It is a danger to them and to us. I would like Morris County and my area to remain uncrowded and remain as it is....there's already SO much building going on in Mt Arlington...it's time for it to stop!! | |
| 51 | 3:04 pm PST, Nov 28 | pat mangino | I've lived in the area since 1978. I moved to Florida in 1995 to take care of my dad and moved back here in 2003. I owned a lakefront for 20 years on Lake Hopatcong before I left for Florida. When I came back I was shocked at the eyesore condos that were built on bertrands island since I had been gone. How could the town approve such an eyesore. The lake will never look the same. The view from the State Park is atrocious. I moved to 6 altenbrand in 2003 and was shocked at the horror that was permitted to occur on howard blvd. For two years, I have subjected to dynamite blasting, traffic tie-ups, windows shattering from Kara Homes latest project. I see how things work--they gave the town a library---so for that I'll never enjoy walking through the woods again up that mountain like I used to, observing the wildlife that was in great abundance up there. How could you allow such a small buffer. I am a local realtor and You may be surprised that I object to this irresponsible building. When you have to severely alter the landscape by blasting mountains apart so that a handful of people can get rich, that is irresponsible. You are making the town of Mt. Arlington more and more unattractive. I cry when I see the eyesore across from the wildlife preserve. Do you really think that wildlife preserve will remain wild after they are done destroying everything across the street from it on Howard Blvd. Do you have any plans at all in this township for preserving any land at all? Aren't we entitled anywhere to have a sense of space and serenity. I miss terribly walking in the woods on Howard Blvd., I'm sick of hearing all the trucks and blasting-it has seriously affected my quality of life. Can you imagine a town without any birds or turtles or deer or rabbits etc., this is where we are headed. I noticed when I attended one of your town meetings that a great deal if not more than 50% of the members of the land use board were builders. Are these members speaking on the behalf of the residents of Mt. Arlington when they make their decisions on the best way to use the land??? No animals or insects mean no flowers or vegetables whether you know this or not. If you continue to destroy all the open land in Mt. Arlington, we might as well move to the city. This is the reason most of us moved out here to begin with, to be closer to nature. Please be courageous enough to make the right decisions to preserve the land so I can take my grandchildren for a walk locally in the woods somewhere, so there will something beautiful to look at once in awhile. This is a very environmentally sensitive piece of land. Do we have money for Green Acres or some way of purchasing the land. Let's use it. |
OPPOSITION to “Shadow Woods” Development
WE THE UNDERSIGNED RESIDENTS ARE OPPOSED TO THE PROPOSED ATKINS COMPANIES’ "SHADOW WOODS" DEVELOPMENT. THIS CONSISTS OF 60 NEW TOWNHOUSES AND 10 SINGLE FAMILY HOMES, PLUS MANY NEW PARKING LOTS, ROADS, AND MUCH MORE. WE UNDERSTAND THAT DESTROYING FURTHER NATURE RUINS THE NATURAL BEAUTY OF THE EXISTING WOODS AND OUR TOWN, DEVALUES OUR PROPERTY, DESTROYS THE ANIMALS’ NATURAL HABITATS, AND THREATENS ENDANGERED SPECIES. INSTEAD, WE ENCOURAGE THE RESPONSIBLE RENOVATION/UTILIZATION OF EXISTING BUILDINGS ELSEWHERE. URBAN SPRAWL IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM IN NEW JERSEY. SOME OVERWHELMING AND DEVASTATING DOCUMENTED FACTS ON URBAN SPRAWL ARE:
URBAN SPRAWL CREATES ADDITIONAL POLLUTION
FROM Http://www.nrdc.org/cities/smartgrowth/: "Sprawling land development is gobbling up the American countryside at an alarming rate -- around 365 acres per hour according to government figures. In most communities the amount of developed land is growing faster than the population. This pattern of growth forces us to be overly dependent on automobiles, increasing the pollution and damage they cause. It also destroys farmland and open spaces and pollutes more and more watersheds…"
URBAN SPRAWL CONTRIBUTES TO GLOBAL WARMING
FROM "Curbing Sprawl to Curb Global Warming"
http://www.sierraclub.org/sprawl/articles/warming.asp "High levels of motor vehicle ownership and use are driven by sprawling land use patterns which require long, dispersed trips, by poor public transit service (itself a consequence of sprawl), and by subsidies to motor vehicle use."
URBAN SPRAWL THREATENS OUR LIMITED WATER SUPPLY
From New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP)’s "ANTI-SPRAWL PAGE" (http://www.state.nj.us/dep/antisprawl/map.html): In NJ, "new development claims another 50 acres every day, and 40 percent of this growth is occurring in critical natural resource areas and other environmental sensitive lands that must be preserved and protected… New Jersey faces no single greater challenge than providing a clean, safe and plentiful supply of drinking water for our growing population. Recent drought emergencies have provided sobering lessons about the consequences we face if we fail to protect our streams, rivers, and reservoirs. We must guarantee a steady supply of water to support both our burgeoning population and our ecosystems."
URBAN SPRAWL DESTROYS WILDLIFE
http://www.nrdc.org/cities/smartGrowth/pwild.asp: "Habitat loss, generalization and fragmentation are sprawl's three most damaging impacts on wildlife. But sprawl does more: it also pollutes our rivers, lakes and air, further threatening species. It is easy to see why Michael Klemens of the Wildlife Conservation Society described sprawl as an "extremely severe problem for wildlife," and why ecologist Joseph Maculae calls sprawl "an environmental abomination."Note: This OPPOSITION to “Shadow Woods” Development petition was submitted by Maanc President.
