Don't Let Your Neighbors Facing Illness Go Hungry

Living with a serious illness like cancer or HIV/AIDS can be a profoundly challenging experience. However, for those with limited income, or no income, such a diagnosis can present seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

Mary, 65, understands this all too well. During a visit to the hospital, where she was being fitted for a wig. "I was crying," she recalls, "because I couldn't afford the wig, but also because I couldn't afford to buy food." Despite undergoing chemotherapy and radiation twice, Mary was often forced to skip meals – going all day without eating – just because she couldn't afford food.

Fortunately for Mary and thousands like her in in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, Food & Friends is there to provide medically-tailored, delicious meals and groceries delivered by caring community members.

In 2016 alone, Food & Friends – supported by nearly 9,000 volunteers – delivered almost 1 million meals. But now we need your support more than ever. The population of the greater D.C. area is booming and the demand for our life-sustaining services continues to rise – even as we've seen a steady decline in government funds, including funding for home-delivered nutrition services and food security.

Show your support for Food & Friends today and take the first step in helping to ensure more people like Mary receive the nourishment they need to improve their health and enhance their quality of life. This simple act can mean everything to those living with life-changing illnesses.
