End Military Hazing in Russia

In Russia, it is estimated that nearly 4,000 new army recruits commit suicide or die each year due to military hazing practices known as dedovshchina ("rule of the grandfathers"). These recruits are virtual slaves to their superiors and are subject to humiliation and severe beatings. The next year, those who survive continue the vicious cycle of dangerous hazing.

The Russian government deals with hazing incidents on a case-by-case basis and responds often when it's too late. Tell President Dmitry Medvedev that the government must implement a plan to eradicate military hazing.
Dear President Dmitry Medvedev,

It is estimated that nearly 4,000 new army recruits commit suicide or die each year due to military hazing practices known as dedovshchina.

The government must stop dealing with these hazing incidents on a case-by-case basis and address the overarching problem. One solution is to create a task force dedicated to implementing a strategy to eradicate the abuses that these recruits face.

It is also very important that the conditions of many military bases improve. The recruits are often forced to give over their personal effects, money, and food to the older soldiers and this, as well as other forms of corruption, could be lessened with better supplies and rations.

The recent mass protests and desertions of the older recruits should serve as a wake-up call; The inhumane practices of dedovshchina are not only caustic to each individual, but the army as a whole. This must be stopped immediately.
