Pledge to Eat Conscientiously, for Animals and the Planet

Target: YOU!
Sponsored by: Care2

One of the best things you can do for the environment and for the planet is to become vegetarian, eat less meat or pay more attention to where your meat comes from.

Due to the way meat is processed and transported, the meat industry accounts for more pollution than the entire transportation industry! If you think cars and planes are bad, take a deeper look into the meat industry.

Animal agriculture not only produces carbon dioxide, but also methane and nitrous oxide emissions. Those three are the toxic cocktail that causes global warming.

Eating 1 pound of meat emits the same amount of greenhouse pollution as driving a hummer 40 miles!

As if that wasn't a good enough reason, there are many issues about the treatment of farm animals in factory farms, who are crammed into tiny cages and subjected to horrifying lives.

Pledge to help our environment, our exploited farm animals, and yourself by eating less meat, and knowing where your food comes from.

Eating less mass produced meat alone is not the solution to global warming. This article implies that reducing the impacts in one area justifys continuing to drive gas guzzlers. Offsetting is not reduction. It is necessary to reduce carbon emissions in all aspects of life.

This is the easiest pledge to sign up for since I am already a vegan. Being vegan is the least you can do for the planet and the animals. Try to grow some of your own veggies so you don't have to get veggies that were transported using fossil fuels. Buy locally if you can and buy organic. I could go on and on. I wish everyone was vegan.

I have always been an omnivore, but I have recently decided to cut down on meat as much as I can for many reasons. I have already stopped eating pork/bacon. Next I will cut back on cow products.

I am an omnivore! I was made to eat both meat and plants. However, I do believe that we humans consume far too much meat for our own health. There is no balance! As a family, we have cut our meat intake considerably over the past year, and we will continue to do so. Apart from helping the environment, it makes sense economically too!

I have been a vegetarian for almost 20 years and Iīm proud of my decision. Unfortunately, I live in a meat-eating country where meat is part of its culture. And it hasnīt got any better throughout the years. No matter how much I might rave about the benefits of not eating animals (which, by the way, they are many) I cannot convince anybody, except for my mother and my best friend. Yet I keep trying. Protecting the environment should be another good reason to stop eating meat.

I have been getting an education around changing my diet to a plant based diet. I am in the process of going vegetarian.
