It is sad but still often customary that many people turn to animals for studies, research and experimentation. Such is the case with the Russian Federal Space Agency, an organization that finds it acceptable to use monkeys in their space program. What is sad is that many people view animals as an object rather than a living being. A monkey is not an astronaut and PETA feels that the space agency has a misguided mission to dispatch four monkeys to Mars. Years ago, dogs, primates and other animals were used in various crude experiments that often led to death and cruelty. Primates are highly intelligent and sensitive, feeling stress and trauma from years of tests and experiments. These adorable, brainy creatures do not deserve to be sent into space rather than being sent to healthy sanctuaries.
Our efforts in this petition is to encourage the Russian Embassy & Russian Federal Space Agency not to send any monkeys or any other animals into Mars as part of their space program but rather choose to send them to a safe and healthy sanctuary. You can help us (and these animals) by signing and sharing this petition.
Russian Embassy & Russian Federal Space Agency – We strongly urge you to abort the plans to send some rhesus macaque monkeys into space in 2017. This is inappropriate treatment of these primates and you should consider sending them to healthy, reputable sanctuaries where they can live out the rest of their natural lives in comfort and proper care. Animals are not meant to do the job of astronauts. Such experiments for these animals causes extreme stress and discomfort. Follow suit with other pioneering space agencies that use other high-tech methods rather endangering primates or other animals. Do not send these animals in outer space!!
