The Pet Safety and Protection Act (S. 415 and H.R. 5229)
The Pet Safety and Protection Act (S. 451 and H.R. 5229) was introduced in the Senate by Senator Akaka and in the House by Representative English. The Act amends the Animal Welfare Act to prohibit USDA-licensed Class "B" Dealers (who obtain animals from "random sources") from supplying cats and dogs to research facilities. Many of these animals are stolen pets, strays, seized from shelters or obtained falsely through "free to good home" ads. It is in the greater public interest that Class “B” Dealers not be allowed to sell animals to research facilities. This will help to ensure the safety of America’s beloved companion animals. The American people urgently need your help and support. Please co-sponsor and vote for the passage of the Pet Safety and Protection Act.
