Stop Irresponsible Animal Breeding

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: Care2
The breeding of animals is a sensitive and complex issue. While some breeders are legitimate and treat the animals well, there are others who breed animals for a certain look, or worse for fighting.

Many of these breeds live uncomfortable or tragic lives because their bodily function, comfort, and/or brain function are inhibited. Some examples are miniature horses, pit bulls (who are bred to have huge shoulders for fighting and to look tough) and inbreeding.

Another form of irresponsible breeding is, of course, puppy mills. Sign this petition to tell your Representative that you care about the issue of animal breeding, and that breeding any animal for profit should require strict government regulation.

Sign the petition today to call for the regulation of animal breeding!

Dear Representative,

I am writing to tell you that I care deeply about the welfare of animals in regard to animal breeding.

Irresponsible animal breeding is cruel and should be regulated by the government. Many animals are bred for looks or even for fighting, and this breeding can cause the inhibition of the animals' bodily and mental function, and can cause them to live very uncomfortable lives.

This is a complex issue, and I trust you, as my representative, to do what you can to make sure that this issue is addressed.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

People should not be allowed to breed as long is their is an overpopulation of animals in our shelters that are being euthanized every day for not having a place to call home. Many breeders do not care about the welfare of the animal and keep them in inhumane conditions. If your only concern is to make a profit and not the animal you are caring for you shouldn't be allowed to have that animal let alone be permitted to breed it. The government should regulate who is allowed to breed. Every person that purchases from a breeder or pet store is taking a home away from a shelter animal who will die for lack of guadianship. If government controlled animal breeding it would cut back the supply of animals helping to reduce overpopulation in animal shelters. 3-4 million animals die every year in America and the government can take action and prevent the fate of shelter animals by controlling breeders.

These precious animals are often an untapped resource for human beings. Seeing eye dogs, police dogs, search and rescue dogs just to name a few. What is happening is senseless.

Please stop this heartbreaking cycle of breading and euthensia. It is so unecessary and these loving animals do not deserve to be treated this way.

Dear Representative, I am writing to tell you that I care about the welfare of animals in regards to breeding. Animals bred in mills as pets, or for fighting are an abomination and reflect poorly on our humanity. We hav the power to vastly alter their lives for the better and should do so. Irresponisible breeding for example, has caused issues with a number of breeds of dogs. Dalmation's, for example, because of irresponsible breeding in puppy mills to supply demand, are notorious for having mental and behavioural defects - to the detriment of not only the animals, but to the safety of the public. I understand that this is a complex issue, and I trust you, as my representative, to do what you can to make sure that this issue is addressed. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Matthew Maples

There are thousands of pets being put to sleep everyday in this country. It is senseless to be letting someone breed an animal on purpose. to bring more animals into the world. And, all for the sake of money.

The breeding of animals needs to be regulated just like any other business. There should be licenses and controls put in place to get rid of these puppy mills and the breeding of dogs for fighting.

There are millions of animals that are euthanized each year for lack of homes in the US. To keep additional animals in such awful conditions in breeding kennels is a crime against nature. The supposed "breed standards" are also creating animals with severe medical problems, including some breeds that cannot mate or give birth without medical intervention. There are responsible small scale breeders in this country. Large scale breeders should strive to be like them, or don't breed at all.

I have voluntered with two animal rescue groups for the past 3 years. We are always getting liiters of mixed or full breed animals from people that have full breed dogs or cats and not getting them fixed because they want to breed them for money. The people get over there head or something wroung with puppies or kittens and htey get dropped off at the shelter. Irrrsponsible breeding needs to stop. Working with the rescues I feel like I am going in circles. I know it is a complex issue, but it needs to be addressed.

Breeding for profit without consideration for the animal is wrong in so many ways. Please help put a stop to these practices.

Barrels full of dead dogs & cats, it's an overwhelming thing, I can't imagine the pain the workers whom must euthanise these animals go through.

I'm tired of seeing animals die each week in shelters. There are too many people breeding for money. Even mutts and cats are bred now for $20 bucks a pop! INFORCE SOME LAW!
