After a secret vote was held, the UN has elected Saudi Arabia to a UN women's rights commission. Saudi Arabia is a country that an absolutely horrific record on women's rights and continues to oppress women in many ways.

The Executive Director of United Nations Watch, Hillel Neuer, may have said it best: “Electing Saudi Arabia to protect women’s rights is like making an arsonist into the town fire chief."

Saudi Arabia bans women from driving cars and arrests those who protest the law. Women in Saudi Arabia must have a male guardian who makes all critical decisions on her behalf, from birth until death.

Saudi Arabia, a top U.S. ally, is also on the U.N. Human Rights Council.

The UN Commission on the Status of Women says on its website that it is "exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women."

This is unacceptable. Please sign to demand the reversal of the decision to add Saudia Arabia to the UN women's rights council!
