Send Congress Their Global Warming To-Do List!

Target: US Congress
Sponsored by: Environmental Defense
Congress is coming back in September, and they now have less than two months left to pass meaningful legislation on global warming before year's end.

We cannot afford for politicians to be wishy-washy on this issue. Scientists agree that we must act now in order to stop the terrible consequences of global warming.

Congress has three very important tasks for this session:
  • House and Senate leaders must continue to focus on global warming and keep the pressure on committee leaders to produce effective legislation,
  • Committee leaders must draft and mark up effective global warming legislation to send to the floor of both Houses of Congress for a vote, and
  • Both Houses of Congress must pass effective global warming legislation before the end of the 2007 legislative session.
It's simple enough. Sign this petition today to send your members of Congress their Global Warming To-Do List!
deadline: 8-27-2008
goal: 40,000

Dear Decision Maker,

Scientists warn that we must act now if we are to avoid the worst consequences of global warming.

But, after your August recess, there will be fewer than two months left in the legislative calendar to act. Time is running out and I urge you to move aggressively in the Fall to pass strong global warming legislation.

Here is your global warming to-do list:

1) House and Senate leaders must continue to focus on global warming and keep the pressure on committee leaders to produce effective legislation.

2) Committee leaders must draft and mark up effective global warming legislation to send to the floor of both Houses of Congress for a vote.

3) Both Houses of Congress must pass effective global warming legislation before the end of the 2007 legislative session.

Global warming is too important for any further delay. It's time to pass meaningful legislation this fall.

What is it going to take for you people to stop the bureaucratic BS and do something before it's too late??!! You're so worried about the economy...if half the country is under water one day...how much do you think that's gooing to cost?? And you can't fix it once it's done..it's cheaper to act now instead of waiting for irreversible disaster!

I want to see meaningful legislation enacted for people who would also sign this petition if they were aware of it. Their voices cannot be heard without individuals like myself. We must drag this nation kicking and screaming in the fight against global warming if no one else will stand up for environment, even for the sake of dissenters and naysayers. It is for the good of future generations. We need all encompassing reforms even if we must be the ones who set the example. Our commitment to clean up the environment should not depend on the policies of other nations. They should depend on the demand of our own people.

THERE IS NO HIGHER PRIORITY. GET TO WORK. PLEASE. (For some of you I realize, it'll be "back" to work, but for ALL of you there's NO MORE time to waste.)

This country (and this world) needs the U.S. government to TAKE ACTION. Support research that investigates new ways to make impact, create campaigns to promote how people can make a difference, introduce policies that effectively slow down global warming, and make sure every member of Congress is educated and informed on the issues.

I want to see federal and state incentives for people to purchace solar pannels so that we can have sustanable energy sources. this way if only half have solar power we can sell the power back to the power company to help them out so they don't have to damage the enviroment to produce more power

I want to see Congress stick by their word that they will dramatically begin to help minimize Global warming pollution by reducing its own greenhouse gas emissions. We learn by example. Now I hope they see what they can do, and take more steps to further their progress to feed our future.

1. Stop Mountain Top Removal Coal Mining-- this alone would move the focus to other sources (sustainable, environmentally sound) of power; wake up call to electric consumption... 2. Quit subsidizing Big Coal, and other fossil fuel energy companies: only subsidize research for alternatives that are green, clean, soultions. 3. Stop encouraging outsourcing- a local economy is a healthy community 4. Stop Ignoring OXYGEN and WATER as essential and LIMITED RESOURCES and start valuing forests and mountains as productive of these CRITICAL resources 5. Wake up, or move over!! 6. Stop the linear economy; get that imbecile out of office, stop the shopping bull mallarky and try to look past your stomach if you can see over it! 7. Take the pharmaceutical industry off the mainstream media circuits, and out of our air, water and crops (food!). that'll cool things down a bit. 8. Take all that military spending and give our young men a chance to purchase a little piece of farming america instead of going off to war- make food, make oxygen, make love, make time to make it right again

We need the government of every country on the planet to step up to the plate and take responsibility for global warming. We have to act fast to protect Earth... start right now by enforcing carbon emissions laws. Individuals can all do their own part, but the big corporations and factories, etc. need to have the government nipping at their heels.
