To United Nations and World Government Leaders: Help make a difference for our ocean planet!
Whereas everyone on our planet is connected and affected by the oceans;
Whereas the world's ocean covers 70% of our planet, yet less than 1% of our ocean habitat is protected;
Whereas the ocean plays a critical role in maintaining the planet's ecosystems and is essential to human health and well being;
Whereas it is critical to educate the public, and promote stewardship among children and adults alike;
Whereas ocean environments around the world are collapsing, primarily due to over-fishing, pollution, and unsustainable coastal development;
Whereas the ocean's rich diversity of life belongs to all citizens of the world; and
Whereas on June 8 there has been an unofficial celebration of the oceans around the world for 12 years...
I endorse a United Nations resolution to declare June 8 as WORLD OCEAN DAY as a means each year to celebrate the world's ocean and its rich diversity of life; highlight global ocean awareness, education and action programs to promote a healthy and productive ocean; and remind nations, governments, businesses, and individuals of their responsibility to protect the world's living ocean and conserve its resources for present and future generations.
I join the initiative locally, nationally and internationally to celebrate and recognize World Ocean Day each year.

We understand only a little about our oceans- and that little information has shown us so much beauty and intrigue.

Everyday should be a day where we as a planet give thanks for our home. Of all the days that are declared as holidays World Ocean Day should be among the top of the list.
Our ocean has been taken for granted way too long, it is about time we opened our eyes and realized our destructive ways. We need to inspire change, and it has to start somewhere!!!!!

The oceans are our life support system and they are being looted by long line fisheries, companies like "Alibaba", and countries like Japan. Whales, dolphins and sharks are being killed in numbers which are unsustainable. It is high time to stop the looting. If the sharks die the oceans die and then the human race will die too. The oceans belong to all of humanity and are not the private killing grounds of private companies like Alibaba or countries like Japan. Everybody talks about Global Warming but if we lose the oceans we might not live long enough to witness the full effects of it. The UN is the only body who can stop this madness of greed and destruction.

So many of our resources are found in the ocean, the ocean is a crucial part of human life. Even by setting one day a year aside for World Ocean Day much awareness would be raised.

water is the one compound that we as human beings cannot live without. Our oceans support many of our necessities and reflect the health of our planet as a whole. We must save our oceans and protect them. If we destroy our oceans, we destroy mankind.

We need to clean up the oceans and protect them as well. I think it would be a great idea to have national ocean day.

We all depend on the ocean whether or not we know it. Any activity that increases knowledge will have a positive impact.
