Thank Small Business Owners for Helping Poor Communities!

Target: 173 Clean Energy Entrepreneurs Worldwide
Sponsored by: E+CO
Hundreds of everyday people from some of the poorest countries in the world have started small businesses to bring clean energy to their families, neighbors and communities.

Clara M. was struggling to get by in Ghana, Africa - until she came up with a solution to make a better life for herself and thousands of her neighbors.

She reduced the devastating effects of indoor air pollution from charcoal by opening a liquefied petroleum gas station.

Now, Clara’s neighbors have access to modern energy that saves her community money - and maybe even their lives.

Because of 173 entrepreneurs like Clara:

  • 3.3 million tons of CO2 have een offset
  • 4 million people now have access to modern energy services
  • 461,443 tons of firewood and charcoal have been saved and 140 million liters of clean water provided

Say THANKS! to all of the innovative entrepreneurs who have made clean, affordable and environmentally-friendly energy a reality!

deadline: 1-15-2009

Small business gives the world something to be proud of. There is nothing more reassuring than a local merchant who *knows* his/her customers. This is how the needs of the people can be met. Impersonal big business doesn't know it's supporters at all. Perhaps we should stop supporting them?

Clara's story is wonderful to hear about. As citizens we can do more for people in these countries by providing micro loans to people so that they themselves can solve their environmental and agricultural needs.

It's people like Clara who are not being recognized worldwide for their ideas. I am grateful to see people like Clara be successful, but want to see more people recognized in less developed countries (third world) or money invested for poorer people to come up with fresh new ideas bettering the world and the environment.

I can't think of anything better than improving our health and economic status while doing it in an environmentally friendly way. I applaud the efforts of these great entrepreneurs. It is a shining example of how each one of us can individually make a contribution and the result is huge!
