Ask Your Governor to Support Summer Meals

Summertime should be fun and carefree. However, when school is out, thousands of kids who rely on free or low cost breakfast and lunch at school face a long summer of missed meals. No Kid Hungry campaign is working to ensure that children who rely on school meals for their primary nutrition will still have access to food when school is out through summer meals sites in states across the country.

You can help us ensure kids are fed this summer by asking your state's governor to take a few key actions in support of summer meals programs.

Governors are some of our most important allies in the fight against childhood hunger. Making sure kids don't go hungry is a state by state, bipartisan effort. We have the opportunity to reinforce the importance of No Kid Hungry with our nation's governors this summer, and we need your help to do it.

Take action today and ask your governor to take a few simple actions to help kids get access to meals this summer.
Dear Governor,

I'm a resident of your state, an advocate for ending childhood hunger, and a supporter of the No Kid Hungry campaign.

This summer I am especially concerned about the low-income children in our state who rely on school meals as their primary source of nutrition. With school out for the summer, we need to ensure that these kids have access to nutritious food all summer long. I've read that nationally only 3 million of the 21 million U.S. kids who get free or reduced-price lunch get a free summer meal.

As a resident of your state, I ask that you help kids at risk of hunger access summer meals programs by doing two things:

1. Visit a summer meals site here in the state to see firsthand the importance of these meals to millions of kids across the country. Your visit will help shine light on this critical program. Find a summer meals site here:

2. Share the information about summer meals with your constituents through newsletters and emails. You can find more information at http://www.nokidhungry.org/summer.

Let's make No Kid Hungry a reality here at home this summer.
