Keep Weapons From Abusers

Forty-six women in America are shot to death each month by a current or former husband or boyfriend. Yet abusers with a history of domestic violence can easily buy weapons from private sellers online or at gun shows without a background check. It's a loophole that puts women at risk--and Congress needs to take action to keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers and other dangerous people.

The facts don't lie: In states that require background checks for all handgun sales, the number of women shot to death by an intimate partner is 38 percent lower!

The bipartisan background checks bill considered recently in the Senate would have helped prevent dangerous people from being able to get guns so easily, but an obstructionist minority of Senators voted to block it.

Remind the obstructionists in the US Senate that when it comes to protecting women, actions speak louder than words. Add your name to the petition on the right to help protect women by expanding criminal background checks.
