One of the greatest American statesmen to ever grace the halls of Congress has passed away on August 25, but Senator Ted Kennedy's legacy lives on. His tireless work for many progressive causes -- most visibly, health care and civil rights for all Americans -- should be celebrated. When those without a voice needed him, he was always there.

A quote gracing his website demonstrates Senator Kennedy's commitment to liberal causes: "Every American should have the opportunity to receive a high quality education, a job that respects their dignity and protects their safety, and health care that does not condemn those whose health is impaired to a lifetime of poverty and lost opportunity."

In a statement, President Obama called Kennedy "not only one of the greatest senators of our time, but one of the most accomplished Americans ever to serve our democracy."
