Support Assembly Bill 1300 to Protect Mental Health Patients in California ERs

On any given day, hundreds of Californians suffering from mental health issues end up in our state's emergency rooms because they have nowhere else to go.

Whether they're suffering from a chronic mental illness or simply going through a hard time, Emergency Department doctors know how to help — but right now, they're not able to. Because of outdated laws, proper care is out of reach.

We need to tell state legislators to pass Assembly Bill 1300 to ensure ALL patients are treated with the care they need and deserve.

Today, when a patient comes to the emergency room seeking mental health treatment, the law limits trained emergency room doctors in what they can do to meet a patient's needs without calling in outside authorities.

This forces doctors — the people we trust to care for us — to play a waiting game that diverts time and resources away from caring for patients. And results in overcrowded waiting rooms, limited bed availability, and delayed care for patients who need it most.

Tell our lawmakers to make proper mental health treatment in emergency departments a top priority — because it matters to each and every one of us.
I support more effective mental health care in California, and insist that state lawmakers pass Assembly Bill 1300 to see that all Californians receive the compassionate, efficient care they need and deserve.

Sincerely,
