End Workplace Bullying -- A Public Epidemic

Target: State Governors
Sponsored by: Care2
Fifty-four million Americans report being bullied at work -- that's 37 percent of the workforce.

Workplace bullying is a public epidemic that is easily overlooked. It can include verbal abuse, offensive behaviors that are intimidating or humiliating, and sabotage that interferes with work. But it's not as easy to detect or rectify as bullying on the playground, especially when the bully holds a lot of power in the workplace and the victim's job may be at stake.

The recession also makes it harder to find a new job when bullying gets out of hand. And working with a bully in the office can be very taxing. Bullying is a form of psychological violence that can cause stress, depression and even suicide.

We cannot let this continue to affect hard-working and dedicated employees. Show your support and encourage your Governor to enact legislation that will protect employees from bullying in the workplace.

Dear Governor [Name],

Fifty-four million Americans report being bullied at work -- that's 37 percent of the workforce.

Workplace bullying is a public epidemic that is easily overlooked. It can include verbal abuse, offensive behaviors that are intimidating or humiliating, and sabotage that interferes with work.

The recession makes it harder to find a new job when bullying gets out of hand. And working with a bully in the office can be very taxing. Bullying is a form of psychological violence that can cause stress, depression and even suicide.

I fully encourage you to enact legislation in our state that will protect employees from bullying in the workplace.

People who bully do not feel good about themselves. They feel scouraged for some reason and need so much help. In the meantime, they need to be kept away from those who are at work to work and to be a team with their co-workers.

It is absolutely immoral, unethical, unacceptable and shamful that the United States of America does not have strong laws in effect to protect people of all ages from bullying, whether it be schoolyard or workplace bullying it is WRONG, it is VIOLENCE, it is CRIMINAL AND KNOWINGLY AND WILLFULLY HARMING ANOTHER, and it is CRUEL and IMMORAL and has caused others GREAT DAMAGE in their lives and careers. All people have a basic human right to feel safe at home, at school and at work! But bullies need to no they have NO RIGHT to bully or harm others and that if they choose to act in this manner there will be consequences which include jail time and lawsuits, unquestionably enforced by our legal officials and government! This will stop this problem once and for all. Think now, what have we had a major war going on for spanning the last ten years???????? We do not accept bullying from others and it should not be accepted right here in our home country. This is common sense. Please create strong laws against schoolyard and workplace bullying and protect the citizens of this country from the violence of others. We not only need the new law, we need it to be strong and have unquestionable consequences and to be put enforce NOW!
