Animal Abuse is a severe problem in the United States and we must take action NOW.Each year thousands of animals are injured or die of abuse and neglect. Often this violence against animals goes unpunished. But it should not be ignored despite the fact that statistics show that there is a strong correlation between violence against animals and violence against humans. Studies show that animal cruelty can be one of the earliest and most dramatic indicators that an individual is developing a pattern of inflicting suffering on others. In addition, statistics show that many violent criminal offenders have histories of serious, repeated animal cruelty as children or teens. These violent people must be severely punished for their crimes. Perhaps before their violence spreads to hurt more animals and people.
Animals have rights just like humans. They don't deserve to be tortured and abused. An animal deserves the protection of
the state. The law must be more strict against animal abusers. Please sign now and urge President Bush to take action to increase the penalties for animal abusers. You will be helping get criminals off the streets...!!
| Number | Date | Prefix | Name | State | Country | Why are you trying to stop animal abuse? | Do you think the penalties are big enough for animal abusers? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 41,788 | 7:35 pm PST, Nov 22 | Leah Young | Texas | United States | I think they deserve fair treatment. | Heck no. Make an animal suffer and die, you should then suffer and die. | |

| 41,786 | 11:29 am PST, Nov 21 | jennifer Avakian | California | United States | I am sick of people getting away with hurting animals. Its offial and they need to be severly punished. We all need to make this stop/ | NO absoulutly not!!!!!!! | |
| 41,785 | 5:15 am PST, Nov 20 | Jennifer Donavan | Germany | Because it is WRONG! | I think animal abusers should get punishment equal to what they would get if they had done the same abuse to a person | ||
| 41,784 | 1:08 pm PST, Nov 18 | Mr. | Frank Amato, Jr. | Nevada | United States | Animals are trusted to our care....it is living, breathing and feels like any human feels. They are the very life and spirit of our hearts and we should be able to deserve their trust. | Not anywhere close. 10 Year mandatory. Felony mandatory. No form of abuse to animals should be tolerated. Perhaps if the same penalties were to apply for animals as humans it possibly cut it down much more. |

I think we should lock them up with the worse criminal so they could taste their own medichine. They should be lock up with murders or rapist. They should loose everything they own and give all their money to the dog they abuse. Our law should be harsh on dog fighting. | |

| 41,773 | 4:43 pm PDT, Oct 15 | Anonymous | New York | United States | Animals aren't here to be abused. They're here to live, just like the rest of us. We're not superior to them, and anyone who thinks humans are is just someone who doesn't care. | No. Many times, people get off with a warning, and people are barely ever caught. Some people just let it go when they see an animal being abused because they think someone else will fix it. But they won't. They'll think the same thing, and that will keep on going. | |

| 41,770 | 2:31 pm PDT, Oct 9 | Ms. | Stephanie Pejskar | Illinois | United States | It's one of the worst things in the world. Animals can't help themselves and look to people for help. And when those people hurt them, then they have no help at all and makes them distrust human-beings even more. Animal abuse is horrible. It brings tears to my eyes :( | Absolutely not. |
| 41,769 | 9:26 am PDT, Oct 6 | Ms. | Anonymous | South Carolina | United States | Animals are as defensless as a human baby. They do not understand why they are being beaten and do not deserve it. Its like hurting a baby. | No. I think the penalties should be the same as if they hurt a human baby or child. |
| 41,768 | 3:48 pm PDT, Oct 5 | Mrs. | MELANIE CASEY | Tennessee | United States | BECAUSE I LIVE BESIDE NEGLECT AND ABUSE. I HAVE WITNESS THE OWNER HIT THE SAINT BERNARD IN THE FACE AND WHEN HIS 5 YR OLD SON HIT THE DOG IT BIT HIM. THE 3 LARGE DOGS (2 GREAT DANES AND A SAINT BERNARD) GO 2 TO 3 DAYS BETWEEN FEEDINGS VERY OFTEN. THEY ARE NOT IN VERY GOOD HEALTH, ONE HAS SORES ON IT'S HIPS AND LEGS WERE IT LIES CHAINED IN HIS DOG HOUSE. THE OWNERS COME AND GO AS THEY STAND WATCHING HOPE TO BE FED BUT NO ONE CARES. I HAVE VIDEO FOOTAGE OF FIVE DAYS AND 24 HR A DAY OF TAPING THAT SHOWS WHEN THEY ARE AND ARE NOT FED BUT THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO BECAUSE THEY ARE GROSSLY EMANCIPATED AND DIEING. I AM SORRY BUT IF AN ANIMALS GOES 24 TO 48 HRS OR MORE WITH OUT FOOD IT IS SUFFERING. WHY DOES IT HAVE TO GET TO THAT POINT BEFORE THEY WILL STEP IN. OUR GOVERNMENT IS JUST SIMPLY COLD HEARTED. | I BELIEVE THEY SHOULD BE STIFFER PENALTIES. BUT THERE IS A GREAT NEED FOR BETTER LAWS TO HELP THESE ANIMALS THAT ARE IN THESE SITUATION OF NEGLECT AND ABUSE WERE LAW ENFORCEMENT OR ANIMAL CONTROL CAN STEP IN SOONER (AT LEST THE ONES THAT CARE). IT SHOULD NOT HAVE TO GET TO THE POINT WHERE THESE ANIMALS HAVE TO GET IN EXTREMELY POOR HEALTH, EMANCIPATED, AND HAVE TO GO THROUGH MONTHS EVEN YEARS OF SUFFERING OR EVEN DIE BEFORE THEY WILL DO SOMETHING. IT NEEDS TO STOP. IF THEY DON’T WANT TO CARE ABOUT THEIR ANIMALS THEN WHY DO THEY KEEP OR WANT THEM. I AM STILL TRYING TO FIGURE THAT OUT. I CAN UNDERSTAND IF SOMEONE WAS GOING THROUGH HARD TIMES BUT WAS TRYING TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR PETS, BUT SOMEONE WHO HAS THE MONEY BUT JUST DOESN’T CARE IS A DIFFERENT STORY. |
| 41,767 | 5:51 pm PDT, Oct 4 | Ms. | Anonymous | Pennsylvania | United States | I am trying to stop animal abuse because an animal is just like a human they do not deserve to suffer or to be abused. An animal thats is being abused may turn on you and when that animal turns on you and harms you it is put to sleep and nothing happens to the person that abused the animal which is very sad because the animal is being punished for something it didn't start.animals are their for company and love so why abuse them when they are there for a good cause. abusing an animal is just plain cruel and sick. So why abuse animals if the person that is doing it doesn't want to be abused. | No, animal abusers should get the same punishment that people who abuse their children do. |
| 41,766 | 11:47 am PDT, Oct 3 | Ms. | regina m. fusco | Maryland | United States | Because all animals are here for a purpose and all they want is love - they are also defenseless and any human that abuses or neglects an animal should face severe punishment | no |

| 41,764 | 7:49 pm PDT, Sep 12 | Anonymous | Florida | United States | It is cruel and what ever did the animals do to hurt you. the only reason why they are probably abusing the humans is because your probably abusing them. | NO WAY THEY NEED TO BE ALOT WORSE!!!!!!!!!!!!1 | |
| 41,763 | 1:21 pm PDT, Sep 11 | Ms. | Brittany Willner | Maryland | United States | all most of these animals being abused have wanted to do, is be loved and give love. people take them for granted. I am an avid animal lover, my animals all have very unique personalities.. | absolutely not! I have sen too many times people get away with cruelties to animals, and they come back to their life life nothing happened.. and more often then not.. nothing ever does.. its sad |
| 41,762 | 12:47 pm PDT, Sep 7 | Ms. | Emily Sowell | Texas | United States | Its wrong, cruel and just plain evil. I love animals, and it breaks my heart when i hear or even think about poor animals being abused. | Absolutly Not. The penalties should be way worse for the wrong- doers. |
| 41,761 | 2:03 pm PDT, Sep 3 | Ms. | Brittany Davis | Florida | United States | ||
| 41,760 | 5:17 pm PDT, Aug 27 | Ms. | Brittney gant | Maryland | United States | i am an animal rescuer who see cruelty everyday please help it stop!! | no...if people can do this to animals what can they do to humans? |
| 41,759 | 6:56 pm PDT, Aug 18 | Ms. | Rachel Bush | Pennsylvania | United States | I am horrified that this occurs. In a world where humans make the rules, animals need advocates. | Absolutely not. They need to be closer to those for crimes against humans. Abuse is wrong, no matter who or "what" is the victim. |

Make Penalties for Animal Abuse More Severe!
Dear President Bush,
Animal Abuse must stop! Animal neglect cannot be allowed. Across the United States, thousands of animals are severely mistreated. Often this violence against animals goes unpunished. Animals have rights just like humans. They don't deserve to be tortured and abused. The people who commit these crimes are not getting enough time behind bars. Animal abuse crimes are often overlooked, despite the fact that statistics show that there is a strong correlation between violence against animals and violence against humans. These violent people must be severely punished for their crimes. An animal deserves the protection of the state. Are they not as important as a person. Are people somehow more valuable? No, we're not. The law must be more strict against animal abusers. Please take action to increase the penalties for animal abusers. You will be helping get criminals off the streets... perhaps before they take violent action against people as well!
Thank You,
The Undersigned.
