Don't Let Sen. McConnell Stand in the Way of Justice

"I agree with the Judiciary Committee's recommendation that we not have hearings. In short, there will not be action taken." — Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is threatening to block hearings on President Obama's Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland. This is the Supreme Court of the United States – entrusted with interpreting our Constitution – and Mitch McConnell is holding it hostage to play politics with our rights as citizens.

We can't afford to let Senate Republican leadership gamble with our Constitutional rights. And we definitely can't afford to risk our next president sending an anti-LGBT justice to the bench – as the leading Republican candidates for president have explicitly vowed to do.

Tell Mitch McConnell #DoYourJob: stop playing politics and fulfill his constitutional obligation – urge him to hold confirmation hearings immediately for Judge Merrick Garland's nomination to the Supreme Court!
Senator McConnell,

I am contacting you in response to your statements that you will not allow the Senate to take any actions, including hearings, on anyone President Obama nominates to succeed Justice Scalia on the Supreme Court of the United States.

As a member of the Human Rights Campaign, America's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) advocacy group, I have witnessed first-hand the power of the Court and its impact on our country. Justice delayed is justice denied - and by refusing to consider President Obama's Supreme Court nominee, you are standing in the way of democracy. A nominee deserves fair consideration which means a timely and fair committee hearing and a confirmation vote by the full Senate.

Please put politics aside and fulfill your constitutional duty by giving President Obama's nominee to the Supreme Court fair consideration.

Sincerely,
[Your name]
