Tesco: Don't Wait Nine Years to Ban Battery Cages!

UK grocer Tesco promised to phase out cruel battery cages for egg-laying hens, but they don't plan to stop selling their eggs until 2025.

Tesco currently sells about 600 million eggs a year. Hens in battery cages have little or no room to move around and spread their wings. Their feet hurt from standing on hard wire, and their cramped conditions encourage disease to spread. These hens lead a miserable existence, unable to behave as they do naturally.

Nine years is much too long for these hens to suffer. Please sign the petition to urge Tesco to phase out battery cages as soon as possible, and expedite a switch to free range egg production.

Thank you for promising to phase out cruel battery cages for egg-laying hens. As you know, hens in battery cages have little or no room to move around and spread their wings. Their feet hurt from standing on hard wire, and their cramped conditions encourage disease to spread. These hens lead a miserable existence, unable to behave as they do naturally.

I am concerned that you plan to continue selling eggs produced in battery cages until 2025. I believe nine years is much too long for these hens to suffer. I respectfully urge you to phase out battery cages as soon as possible, and expedite a switch to free range egg production. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider this petition.
