While many businesses have struggled to weather the 2008 recession, food service provider Sodexo reported revenues of more than $20 billion. Yet many of its full-time employees are paid so little that they qualify for taxpayer-funded anti-hunger programs.
Sodexo has become quite good at portraying itself as a socially responsible employer. But when you take a look at the facts, the cycle of poverty that Sodexo claims it wants to end begins with a job at Sodexo.
Sodexo workers make as little as $8.27 per hour and often cannot afford the health insurance offered by the company. Even those workers who make slightly more per hour still hover at or below the poverty line for a family of four. Sodexo's business model allows executives to take home larger pay checks while the American taxpayers could end up footing the bill for their employees.
If we are to repower the middle class and end poverty in this country, we must be willing to fight for jobs that pay a sustainable and living wage. Send a letter to Sodexo and start holding companies responsible for leaving their workers in poverty!
Dear Sodexo,
While many other business have struggled to weather the recession, the same can't be said for Sodexo. In fiscal year 2008, you reported revenues of more than $20 billion and reaped operating profits of over $1 billion. Unfortunately, these profits were at the expense of your own employees!

Sodexo has become quite good at portraying itself as a socially responsible employer, but when you take a look at the facts, your company is contributing to poverty in the United States, and your workers cannot make ends meet.
Sodexo workers make as little as $8.27 per hour and often cannot afford the health insurance that your company provides. Even those workers who make slightly more per hour still hover at or below the poverty line, and some workers struggle on incomes of $17,000 or less -- far below the government's poverty guideline for a family of four.
Sodexo can afford to act in our communities' best interest and it's time that your company take responsibility for the poverty you are creating.
Sincerely,
