Health Care is a Right, Not a Privilege

Target: U.S. Senate
Sponsored by: Gillibrand for Senate

In the world's wealthiest nation, it's unconscionable that people are turned away from health care coverage because of a pre-existing condition and that families are just one illness away from bankruptcy!

Opening up a not-for-profit public health plan like a "Medicare for all" to all Americans will ensure that every American has access to quality, affordable health care regardless of his or her income.

Health care is a right and every American deserves affordable, high-quality coverage. Urge your Senators to support real health care reform that includes a not-for-profit public option.

Why does America need a public option?

I am writing today to strongly urge you to support health care reform that includes a not-for-profit public option. As you are well aware, the United States health care system is in desperate need of repair.

[Your comment will be inserted here]

After years of inaction, health care costs have skyrocketed and the problem is worse than ever. Today, the cost of health care is the most significant financial burden that most U.S. families and small businesses fact. Even worse, more than 47 million Americans remain uninsured.

Quality, affordable health care should be a right for every citizen, not a privilege, and I believe that creating a not-for-profit public health system to compete with the private health insurance system is the only way to address America's health care crisis.

Thank you for taking the time to consider my comments. I eagerly await your response.

Health care costs are rising and the insurance companies seem to be getting the biggest chunk. They have been shown to deny health care to those who need it to boost their profits even higher. We need the public option to protect us from the worst excesses of the insurance companies and keep them (relatively at least) honest.

what we really need is a single payer system for all. The Public Option is the compromise that can keep premium costs competitive, so we can start to progress from the status quo.

Health care is a fundamental right of every American, not a priviledge for just the rich and powerful. That's not democracy. The public option on a not-for profit basis would protect the health of all Americans and especially protect the chlidren who are the future of this nation and the world.

The only reason to deny a public option is the sheer greed of caving in to the bribes of the insurance industry. The rights of the people should come first!

It is time that ALL American have health care. Presently we have socialised medicine for the elderly, the military, and the poor. The working poor are out of luck. The middle class can't take this any more. We all should have medicaid !!!

health care is a necessity for all americans ...not just u senators ....also, those 10 senators , supposedly democrats, should be shown up for siding with republicans on this...they should be ostracised and their constituents should be sure not to vote for them in the coming election...

In 1900, health care science and technology were relatively primitive. Access was not important because little could be done to help. Today, access is crucial because health care is vital to life and function. Single-payor health care, like single payor education is an appropriate and necessary role for government.

I have four children and have a full time job. I have come to despise every insurance company I have dealt with. A good portion of my salary goes to health insurance and the deductables and copayments keep going up. My oldest has a disability and I have been fighting with insurance companies for 10 years about what they think is a medical necessity! On top of the constant fight, my husband has never been insured because we cannot afford the additional cost! I'd rather give the government the same money and never hear the word "no" again and have the security that my whole family will have coverage. I will be the first person to sign up and I cannot wait for the people in opposition to actually have the courage to ask the public what they want and not what just Fox news has to say!!!

Every person in this country needs to be covered by health care. My cousin died because she didn't have health care and the Florida hospital she was in refused to give her a test that she needed. She died shortly after of a brain anneurism. She was fifty-two years old. It's a disgrace that this can happen in this country.

Everyone should have equal rights. That's what this country was founded on. Even those who can't afford health care have just the same right to it as the wealthy do and it's the humane course of action to help those less fortunate than yourself so that they might live just as healthy a life as you do.
