Support the PAW Act - End Alaska's Aerial Hunting Program!

Target: U.S. House of Representatives
Sponsored by: Care2.com

So far, more than 1,000 wolves have been chased down by gunmen in low-flying aircraft and killed with high-powered rifles. This year alone, at least 232 wolves have been killed – putting the 2008/2009 aerial wolf killing season on pace to become the deadliest in years.

In just a few weeks, Congressman George Miller will re-introduce the Protect America's Wildlife (PAW) Act, federal legislation to end the controversial practice of using aircraft and gunmen to chase and kill wolves in Alaska.

It's time to stop aerial hunting once and for all. Sign the petition below to urge your Representative to sign on as an original co-sponsor of Representative George Miller's re-introduced PAW Act to help end this awful practice in Alaska and prevent it from spreading to places like the Northern Rockies.

Re: Please Co-Sponsor the Protect America's Wildlife Act in the 111th Congress

Dear [Decision Maker],

As one of your constituents and someone who cares about protecting wildlife, I urge you to sign on as an original cosponsor of Representative George Miller's soon-to-be introduced Protect America's Wildlife Act, federal legislation to end the controversial practice of using aircraft and gunmen to chase and kill wolves in Alaska.

Officials in Alaska have flouted the intent of the Federal Airborne Hunting Act that Congress passed in 1972 and perpetuated a scientifically unfounded aerial wolf killing program.

This brutal practice has been condemned by wildlife biologists, hunters and conservationists from Alaska and around the world... and with good cause.

I am horrified. I was going to visit Alaska this coming spring, but now I won't because of this.

This is sickening. I will boycott everything made in Alaska and I will never tour Alaska until this is put to a stop!

It is not ethical hunting and the state has no reliable numbers on which to base their decisions on how many wolves are killed under the program or any solid data to substantiate the program's effectiveness. I am outraged by aerial wolf killing and hope that you will do everything in your power to stop this awful practice as an original cosponsor of the Protect America's Wildlife Act. Thank you for considering my comments. I look forward to your response. view less Sincerely, Perona Ricarté Jonathan.

I, personally, believe that this program may be the best choice. Perhaps not my preferred, but the best. I would love it if wolves were still around for my children to see, someday. If this act doesn't go through, then I'm afraid that may not happen.

As a child, I saw footage of wolves being hunted by helicopter. One ran and ran and ran to exhaustion, then whirled around and snarled at the chopper in a desperate last stand before being gunned down. That image has stayed with me for thirty-five years. Wolves are the predecessors of man's best friend. Please don't allow this horrifying abuse to continue. At least give them a fighting chance.

Please end this abhorrent behavior. This country should not be encouraging bloodsport and horrific treatment of our nations wildlife. It is our moral obligation to be an example to sadistic societies such as China and others by treating our animals and our wildlife with a clear degree of respecgt and empathy.

Wolves are in integral part of the natural habitat. They keep the herds of elk and deer healthier by natural selection. Better then any human hunter can, I might add. They have every right to remain and flourish in their Alaskan wilderness, more so then we do. It is our obligation to protect them from our own misguided laws and those willing to exploit those very laws.

I urge you to support the PAW Act and help to end the brutal and inappropriate actions of aerial wolf hunting. Ms. Palin may be proud of this barbarism, but it is something we should be ashamed of as human beings and Americans.

wolves have been around since the end of the last ice age. They became our first canine. I was privileged to take care of a beautiful female wolf for 10 years and my heart is broken to know that humanity can destroy creation that we were entrusted to steward. Someone needs to open their mind and see that this is very wrong! Extinction means never more!!!!!!!!! I pray that god have mercy on those who decide to allow this barbaric hunting. Wolves are the most beautiful of all canines and deserve to coexist within the circle of life. STOP THIS NONSENSE!!!!!!!!

Gunning down animal form the air must be a new sport. This must stop. Mother Nature takes care of the food chain order and it is not for us to go on a sport hunting spree......I'm sure they are not killing wolves for food consumption or clothing for the poor.
