Tell Canada's New Government to Help Expand Access to Clean, Safe Water & Toilets

For people in Canada, flushing a toilet and turning on a tap to get clean drinking water can be taken for granted. But this is not the case for more than 650 million people in the world today.

Millions of people throughout the world do not have access to clean water, and billions do not have access to a safe, private toilet. Whether you live in Canada, or are a child growing up in rural India, a refugee fleeing from conflict or a young woman giving birth in Mali, the lack of access to safe, private toilets can have devastating consequences, such as debilitating disease and even death.

This past September, the UN adopted new Global Goals on sustainable development. The entire world has come together to agree on goals that will create a fairer, more sustainable world.

Goal 6 promises adequate, equitable access to water, sanitation and hygiene to everyone everywhere by 2030. To get there we need determination and commitment from all member governments – including Canada.

With Justin Trudeau's Liberal majority, there is new potential to ensure that Canada's priorities are in line with the Global Goals. But we must ensure that the new prime minister steps up to bring these goals to fruition with dedicated funds to implement and account for progress.

Tell Prime Minister Trudeau and the new Liberal majority government to set their priorities with the Global Goals in mind. Together, we can help expand access to water, sanitation and hygiene to everyone everywhere by 2030.
