Support the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA)

Target: U.S. House of Representatives
Sponsored by: Care2.com

Finding a job in this economy is already hard enough, but for many qualified, hardworking Americans, the economy is not the only limiting factor. The fact is that many citizens are denied job opportunities, fired or otherwise discriminated against just because they are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT).

Currently there is no federal law that consistently protects LGBT individuals from employment discrimination. As a result, LGBT people face serious discrimination in employment, including being fired, being denied a promotion and experiencing harassment on the job.

Urging Congress to support the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) would aid in ensuring workplace equality for everyone by protecting LGBT employees and their co-workers from discriminatory practices in the office. Send a message to your Member of Congress asking them to support the protection and rights of all individuals by endorsing the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA).

As your constituent, I am writing today to strongly urge you to support the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) (H.R. 3017). As you are well aware, the United States is currently going through a major economic recession which has undoubtedly affected the lives of almost every American.

While unemployment rates have skyrocketed and job opportunities have dramatically decreased, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered (LGBT) individuals have not only had to deal with the current financial issues at hand, but also with workplace discrimination because of their sexual orientation.

There is no federal law as of yet that consistently protects LGBT individuals from employment discrimination. As a result, hardworking Americans are denied job opportunities, fired or otherwise discriminated against simply because of their sexuality.

If enacted, ENDA would ban discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in all aspects of the workplace including hiring, termination, promotion, compensation, and most terms and conditions of employment.

What is the point of discrimiating against LGBT people for employment? Please give up the logic behind the lack of protection. It would save money from having to train additonal employees to do a job that a more qualified person is already doing. It would save unemployment money. Are we really that different?

LGBT individuals are just as capable as anyone else to do their job well. In discriminating them, you are harming not only the LGBT community, but their families, your own business and our whole economy. You also show what a petty person you are. Rise above that and help us all. Discrimination of any kind should have no place whatsoever in America.
