Tell Your Governor to Protect Wildlife and Family Farms

Wildlife needs family farms to survive.

Half of the nation's protected species use farmland for over eighty percent of their habitat.

But more and more of these family farms are going extinct.

And over the past few years, state funding for farmland preservation has been slashed by 52 percent.

These cuts have already cost our country thousands of vital family farms. Especially in the "urban edge" communities where wildlife heavily relies on farmland for food, shelter and safety as their original habitats have virtually disappeared due to development.

You can help lead the fight for farmland protection and save wildlife habitat in your state. Please let your governor know that you want more state funding for farmland protection to ensure our wildlife has the habitat necessary to survive.

Please act now — before it's too late.

Do your part to save the farmland closest to your home. Sign the petition, and join American Farmland Trust in the fight to preserve vital wildlife habitat by protecting family farms.
Dear [Your governor],

I am deeply concerned about the loss of fertile farmland to development and the ongoing threats to our family farms and ranches.

These lands are vitally important to my community and our state's threatened wildlife. Half of the nation's protected species use family farms for over 80 percent of their habitat. Without family farms, these wildlife species have no place to go.

We urgently need these lands — and the people who devote their lives to them — to feed ourselves, our communities and protect our state's beloved wildlife.

I am calling on you to make farmland protection one of your top issues in 2015.

Family farms contribute to our state and local economies. They line many of our state's most scenic drives. They supply threatened wildlife open land for food, shelter and safety as their original habitats have virtually disappeared due to development.
