Stop International Wildlife Crime!

Many of our planet's most iconic species are being pushed to the brink of extinction by organised international criminals. The illegal trade in elephant ivory, poaching rhino horn for 'traditional medicines' in Asia and the smuggling of live animals for exotic pets is decimating wild populations whilst generating billions of dollars for criminals and seriously threatening global security.

In a worldwide trade estimated to be worth $10-20 billion each year, illegal wildlife trade is low risk and high reward. Last year Hillary Clinton said, "wildlife trafficking has become more organised, more lucrative, more widespread, and more dangerous than ever before".

The UK Government needs to do more to help stop this illegal activity -- for the benefit of local people as well as wildlife. For the Government to act, it needs to know the strength of feeling amongst British people on this issue.

Please sign our petition today to help save these species for future generations.
Dear Mr Hague,

I call on the Government and the Foreign Office in particular to take a lead in protecting wildlife currently being decimated by organised international criminals.

In a trade estimated to be worth $10 - 20 billion each year, illegal wildlife trade is low risk and high reward. As well as the threat to elephants, rhinos and other animals, wildlife trafficking has increasingly become a means to fund those threatening international security. As Hillary Clinton said last year, "wildlife trafficking has become more organised, more lucrative, more widespread, and more dangerous than ever before... wildlife trafficking has serious implications for the security and prosperity of people around the world". Action needs to be taken now to protect local people from the impact of wildlife crime and before iconic species are wiped from the face of the earth.

I therefore ask you to ensure that the UK Government uses its influence in international forums to help co-ordinate global opposition to poaching and wildlife trafficking and provide better protection for wildlife.

Yours sincerely,
