Demand the US Government allow and cooperate with an independent investigation into the October 3rd bombing of a hospital in Kunduz, Afghanistan

On October 3rd, 2015, a hospital run by the international humanitarian organization “Doctors Without Borders,” was bombed by the United States military in Afghanistan. Conflicting reports have come out since then, with allegations that the US military continued the bombardment for at least a half hour after being notified that it was a hospital.

At least 22 people, including several doctors and staff, were killed in the strike.

International law may constitute this act as a war crime. The United States military has offered assurances that they will investigate the circumstances of the bombing. However, Doctors WIthout Borders is calling for an independent investigation into this matter.

Initial reports suggest the US military bombed the hospital only after receiving small arms fire coming directly from the hospital. Doctors Without Borders insists there was only staff and patients in the hospital at the time, and denies any hostilities came from the hospital.

President Obama, after receiving immense pressure from the international community, offered a rare apology on October 7th. For many across this country and the world, an apology and an assurance that the incident will be investigated is not enough.

In order for an independent investigation to occur, both the governments of Afghanistan and the United States need to agree to it.
