In Spanish cities like Madrid thousands of animals are abandoned every year. The animal shelters work tirelessly to find foster homes for these animals and to care for feral cat colonies, but without further measures this situation will never get better, and the fate of many of these animals will be, unfortunately, sacrifice.
The solution, as many experts say, is the sterilization. It doesn't only reduces the risk of abandonment and sacrifice of animals, but increases the expectancy and quality of their lives. Many Animal Welfare organizations carry out sterilization campaigns on their own, but without a clear support from the municipalities they may not make a real difference.
