GMO labeling simply puts freedom of choice in your hands, allowing you to decide whether or not you want to buy and eat food that is genetically engineered.
But some in Congress want to make sure you never get that choice. They want to stop states from ever labeling GMO foods – making sure you are kept in the dark about the food you pay for, and eat.

I should have the freedom to choose whether or not I want to buy and eat food that is genetically engineered. But some in Congress want to take way my choice by blocking GMO labeling and my right to know what I'm buying. I urge you to make sure I have that choice by supporting GMO labeling bills like HR 913, and rejecting any effort that would block state legislatures or voters from passing labeling laws.
As you hold hearings on GMO labeling, it is important to note what labeling WON'T do. It won't stop farmers from planting and growing genetically engineered crops. It won't prohibit GMO foods from being sold on the market. And it won't dramatically impact the cost of our food.
In fact, Consumers Union, the policy and action arm of Consumer Reports, recently commissioned an economic study to get to the bottom of these cost claims. They found that GMO labeling would add less than a penny a day to the people's annual grocery bills, a total of $2.30 more per year.
I should have the right to know on the label what's in the food I'm paying for just like when it comes to calories and additives. Bills like HR 913 would achieve by simply requiring genetically engineered foods be labeled as such. It's that simple.
