Demand Answers from Bailed-Out Banks

Target: CEOs of the Nine Largest Bailout Recipients
Sponsored by: Common Cause

When Congress passed the $700 billion bailout plan, the goal was to help Americans who are being hit hardest by the mortgage foreclosure crisis. Now that nearly half of that money is in the hands of big banks like Citigroup, JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs, how is it being spent?

No one's talking. The banks are refusing to say how our taxpayer dollars are being used. All we do know for sure is that the original problem that caused the economic collapse -- housing foreclosures -- is getting worse, not better.

Tell the top banking industry recipients of bailout funds that "we the people" have a right to know how our money is being spent!

A little transparency is not too much to ask. Please take action today!

deadline: 3-31-2009

Congress passed the $700 billion bailout plan with the intention of helping Americans who are being hit hardest by the mortgage foreclosure crisis.

As one of biggest beneficiaries of that bailout, you have an obligation not only to help struggling homeowners, but also to use our taxpayers dollars in an open and transparent manner.

We are calling on you and other large banks to disclose -- immediately and in detail -- how you have spent the millions of dollars you received in taxpayer-funded bailout money.

Communities across the nation are suffering as foreclosures continue to drain resources from services like local police, fire, rescue and public education. The bailout funds must address these issues. And the first step to assess whether the bailout program is working is a complete accounting of how the money is being spent.

We look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Would be nice to know that the big banks put the bailout money to good economic use not just giving out bigger bonuses to their CEOs who already make millions. Just a small portion of that bailout money could clear the debts of millions of Americans who are struggling in this economy. It is sad when big banks don't get it.

Legal restraints must be put on the banks now. They are attempting to extract billions more from customers by reqiring them to sign up for huge rate increases over the next year right now. They must be stopped from raping the people of this country so unscrupulously and weakening the world economy.

Big banking is a flawed system that is beyond repair. The bailout money is being misappropriated because that's all the government and worst-offending, most-needy banks know how to do. I would sure like to see the day when Chase, JP Morgan, Citibank, BA, and their lot own up to their grotesque mismanagement, law-breaking practices, and turn the sharp corner to integrity, honesty and good business. I will not, however, be holding my breath, lest I turn blue and keel over.

It's important that we know what our money is truly being used for. Obviously it's being used for the company pleasures as shown in the news.

I'm appalled at the banks that have received bailout money that "I HAVE TO PAY FOR". President Bush made a huge mistake giving banks the money instead of us hard working citizens. Now, we cannot even get a loan for a mortgage or for anything else unless you have excellent credit. I have learned that even with a pre-approved loan banks are still refusing to loan a mortgage at closing on a new home. People with no debt, good credit are being denyed a mortgage loan to buy a house they CAN afford just because they don't have "Enough Credit". And they are being told to go to their local bank and get a small loan they don't need, to build credit so they can buy a home years from now, when they want a house now. Currently I have had my home for sale for 4 years, Had it listed as a "Short Sale" since August 2008 with no sale. And now we are forced to request a Deed in Lieu of Foreclosure, and the bank has stalled in doing this Since January 2009. Forcing us to quit making mortgage payments because of job loss. Now we will be 2 months past due, our excellent credit is being tarnished, and we will not be able to purchase a new home in another state that actually has jobs because our credit will be tarnished. All because they refuse to loan money to hardworking people that have placed offers on our home! Why are they holding this money that is ment for us to use? Why didn't we just get the money so we could use it as it was ment to be used? Who is going to force these banks to provide loans? Who can we report these banks to? The banks are spending our money on themselves! This is just another way to keep the rich bankers rich, and us people as their slaves.

I know from personal experience that the banks that pledged to assist customers by easing the availablility of credit, are in fact doing just the opposite. They are taking taxpayers' money with one hand, and attacking consumers with the other!

Show us plans for fixing the policies that got the banks in this mess in the first place. If it remains business as usual, you're throwing OUR money away.
