Since 1972, employers from all over the U.S. were to cover all of their employees for work related injuries/illnesses & deaths and this has not happened. State & federal agencies have been paying for what the employer has not paid through workers compensation. Now it is known that the employers want to opt out of worker compensation. Now it will  be legalized to deny injuries and illnesses through the opt out plan, where as before employers were not paying for the injuries illnesses or deaths out of sheer negligence and bad faith causing further injury and maiming and desittution. Employers need to pay their share and not force their financial responsibility onto taxpayers via states or federal government. Especially since injured/ill disabled workers paid into the state and federal agencies via taxes and wage deductions like FICA. or state disability insurance, workers do not need to pay for injuries illnesses or deaths caused by the employer. Employers need to be forced to pay their share for the injuries or illnesses or deaths sustained and suffered at their(employers) places of employment and congress needs to its job and regulate employers according to the federal mandate, all into making sure they pay workers compensation for their employees injuries, illnesses, disabilities or deaths. Employers do not get to shift their financial  and moral responsibilities onto workers and or the state or federal government. No more freebies for corproations on the backs of injured, ill, disabled or dead workers. Enough is enough.

Update #18 years ago
For far too long congress has neglected to address the issues that have created millions of injured/ill/disabled workers. This is part of their job, to take represent all American workers not just corporations.
