Tell the Senate to Reject the Big-Money Handout to Mega Donors

Who wants more secret campaign donations in the political process? The House of Representatives does, that's who.

On April 15, 2015, the House of Representative quietly passed legislation that would inject even more dark money into American politics — and give mega donors like the Koch brothers and Sheldon Adelson even more influence over our elected officials as they make decisions on how much American workers are paid, how clean our environment is, and virtually every aspect of American life.

The bill would exempt political donations from the gift tax — essentially providing a tax break to wealthy political donors at the expense of revenue needed for education, infrastructure, defense and other vital national priorities. Even worse, the bill would also enable mega donors to hide their identities, so taxpayers would not even know who was robbing the treasury to ensure that their hand-picked candidates are elected.

It's not the sort of vote that lawmakers like to talk about. A bipartisan poll by Republican research firm Chesapeake Beach Consulting and Democratic-leaning Lake Research Partners found that voters overwhelmingly say reducing the influence of money in politics is important.

Enough is enough. Sign this petition and let your US Senators know that you OPPOSE S. 942 and any attempt to further corrupt the political process with more campaign cash.

Dear Decision Maker:

I strongly urge you to OPPOSE S. 942 and its companion legislation, H.R. 1104.

This legislation would exempt political donations from the gift tax -- essentially providing a tax break to wealthy political donors at the expense of revenue needed for education, infrastructure, defense and other vital national priorities.

Even worse, the bill would also enable mega donors to hide their identities, so taxpayers would not even know who was robbing the treasury to ensure that their hand-picked candidates are elected.

In a recent bipartisan poll by Chesapeake Beach Consulting and Lake Research Partners voters said that reducing the influence of money in politics is an important issue -- by a six to one ratio. I am one of those voters and sincerely hope that you will do everything in your power to stop this legislation.

Sincerely,
