Permanent public debate for biodiversity in Greece and indigenous rights of use recognized NOW

The  prime reason for this petition is the opening of an official public debate about biodiversity announced by the Greek Ministry of environment for duration of only five days up to the 20th of January 2014. Greek Biodiversity is one of the greatest and most important worldwide especially for the plant kingdom and new species are being discovered as we speak. Despite all of this there is no single well defined action plan for it and has been simply an easy prey for plundering by large organized financial interests. A great fear is that under these conditions a complete and utter destruction is imminent if action is not done to prevent it. A principal tool for the latter is potentially the fact that public debate was officially initiated and then ceased.

With this petition we demand a permanent specific state agency responsible for communication with the public and debate and its more complete recording. We also wish the recognition of the fact that for biodiversity at the local level the societies inhabiting the areas have the first say in any decision that affects it based on historical rights of use of this resource based on a commonly accepted scientific definition of it. This definition will have been accepted by the entirety of the Greek people following democratic procedures. The next phase we would like to be the incorporation of the above right in public legislation as soon as possible.

Let's save Greek Biodiversity. We owe it to ourselves and future generations. By signing this petition we show our interest in preserving Greek nature!
