Demand Justice for West Virginia!

A devastating chemical spill on the Elk River has poisoned the drinking water for over 300,000 people in West Virginia. Many people are still relying on bottled water to drink, cook, and bathe.

It is no secret that Governor Earl Ray Tomblin, the WV legislature, and the WV Department of Environmental Protection have worked to undercut protections for people's health and the environment in favor of the coal and chemical industry. Unfortunately, this chemical spill is not an isolated incident. There is a silent water crisis in West Virginia, where communities living near coal mining face similar dangers each day.

Sign the petition, and tell President Obama that West Virginia leaders cannot be trusted to regulate the coal industry.
Dear President Obama,

Once again, the recent chemical spill disaster in West Virginia shines a light on the ongoing public health and environmental catastrophes communities across the state face at the hands of an unregulated coal industry. Over 300,000 people have gone without drinking water. Countless downstream communities near mining operations have faced the same challenge. This must stop.

Please terminate West Virginia's mining enforcement program and implement a program -- run by the federal Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement -- that will protect people throughout West Virginia from this dangerous industry.
