Preserve Medicaid to Protect the Health Care of Women and Their Families
Imagine being forced to ask:
- Will my grandmother be able to get long-term care or care for her chronic conditions?
- Can my cousin with multiple sclerosis receive care in her home?
- Will my daughter be able to get recommended pap smears and mammograms?
As Congress debates the federal budget, closing tax loopholes for corporations isn't being seriously considered, but the future of a program that millions of women and children depend on is: Medicaid.
The current threats to Medicaid will harm women disproportionately. Women are more likely to have low incomes and to hold jobs that don't offer employer-sponsored health insurance. As a result, they comprise more than two-thirds of the adults who receive Medicaid. For many women, Medicaid may be the only way they can get health coverage. Tell your Senators to preserve Medicaid by rejecting any proposal to cut or restructure this vital program.

In addition, cuts to this vital program will not save money. They will just shift costs from the federal government to states, localities and providers, while increasing the burden on seniors who depend on the program for long-term care, people with disabilities, and millions of children and their families.
I urge you to reject any proposals to cut or restructure the Medicaid program. Please protect the health care of millions of women and families.
