Candidates: Make Environment Part of the National Debate!

Target: 2004 Democratic Presidential Candidates
Sponsored by: League of Conservation Voters
URGE THE 2004 PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES TO ADDRESS THE ENVIRONMENT!
Global warming, acid rain, polluted waters, and air pollution affect Democrats, Independents and Republicans alike. Over 80% of Americans agree that the environment should be a national priority... but the Bush Administration has failed on the environment, by rolling back our landmark protections and favoring corporate polluters over the public interest. The President's own strategists have noted that President Bush is particularly vulnerable on these issues in the 2004 campaign. Environmental issues must be a major part of the 2004 presidential campaign!

Significant environmental issues that must be addressed now:
1) Clean Air and Water Standards
2) Toxic Chemicals and Cleanups
3) Public Lands Preservation
4) US Dependence on Dirty Fossil Fuels
5) Threats from Climate Change
6) Wildlife Conservation

Sign now to let the candidates know that Americans want these issues to be a high priority in the presidential campaign. The environment IS a priority; it is time that it becomes part of the national debate!

Your comments will be delivered via email to each of the Presidential candidates.

deadline: 1-30-2004

Dear Candidate:

The environment affects us all! Growing environmental problems affect our
future, our national security, our economy and much more! Over 80% of the
population agrees that the environment is and should be a national priority.
Unfortunately, the Bush Administration has failed the environment, choosing
instead to roll back our protections and side with corporate polluters
instead of the public interest. I think that it is time for a change.

There are significant environmental issues that must be addressed now:
1) Clean Air and Water Standards
2) Toxic Chemicals and Cleanups
3) Public Lands Preservation
4) US Dependence on Dirty Fossil Fuels
5) Threats from Climate Change
6) Wildlife Conservation

I urge you to consider these and other major environmental problems, develop
real and lasting solutions, and resolve to ensure that those solutions are
enacted! It is time for the environment to become part of the national
presidential debate. My vote will go to the candidate that will take
environmental problems seriously!
We signed the “Candidates: Make Environment Part of the National Debate!” petition!

maybe if Bush is forced to speak to the public about his environmental policies, people will realize what a terrible president he is.

THE DEBATE NEEDS TO BE STRONGER THAN EVER. EVERY DAY OUR ENVIRONMENT IS DEGRADING IN ALL THESE AREAS: WILDLIFE, FOREST, CLIMATE, AIR, ALL PUBLIC LANDS, RELEASE OF TOXIC CHEMICALS AND MUCH MORE. FOR INSTANCES GLACER NATIONAL PARK HAD 129 GLACERS AT THE START OF THE TWENTH CENTRY, NOW THERE IS JUST 29. AS THEY SAY, GO FIGURE!!!

The environment is an area where the most lasting effects of a presidency are registered. Lets put the topic on the floor.

Its about time we as a nation started caring about the wonderful habitats that make up this country. Congress should be involved in the preservation of this country. Not just in documents, but in the world. It is a part of America so it should be protected by the government not plundered, and polluted.

We have used every excuse to abuse the land, air and water of this planet. It is time to begin to use our knowledge to produce technology that uses renewable resources for our enormous energy consumption.

Seeing as how Dub has made it his priority to ignore environmental issues, this is a good topic for debate.

Yo, candidates ~~ the Environment is the MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE for you, for me, for the Earth, for existence. If we can't breathe, we don't need an economy; if we have no clean water left, we don't need a foreign policy; if we all die of chemical poisoning, we won't need a Patriot Act. Get the picture? I'd really like to hear what you have to say about this. Put it on your TO DO (debate) list.

If we can save our environment why should ignore it? We need our world to be healthy for us to be healthy.

This is truly our most important issue.
