As they say dogs are a mans best friend so why punish yhem for crimes comitted against them, would you punish a two year old child for putting his hand in a pot of hot water or would you punish the parent for being careless? please if you have anything in your body called a heart then you would stop the senseless killng of these beautiful animals. Keep the breed alive n get rid of the owners who abuse them.

Kolman 41 Male   The World Is Watching, We are the People who care, And We Will Take Action Daily by letting you know that even though we some of us may not live where you are, WE MATTER AND SO DO OUR ANIMALS, SO WE WILL CONTINUE TO TAKE ACTION DAILY… We all have a say in this matter of life or death.. What’s wrong with the Government here, this is Another Disgusting Example of Government/Big Business & Religious Corruption, wasteful spending, discrimination and Crimes against Humanity!!”. Corrupt to the Core with REDICULOUS Pork Barrel Torture POLICY-TWISTING FANATICS!! We Will All Distribute This Page to Big Media and Start Letting those “Useless Talking Heads on TV News” know what’s really worth reporting to the world… I’m sickened and disgusted. I Beg all Intelligent and Responsible People to Please Stop Letting This Happen STILL..STOP BANNING BREEDS LEFT AND RIGHT!! It’s your fault those ones attacked people!! I had a white English Bull Terrier to Love for many years, but he passed away. He was so beautiful… “All animals deserve a loving home & lots of food, with all the nourishment to keep them content, from a little beetle to a whale shark and every creature in between & no animal deserves to be CAGED!, mistreated, harmed, tortured, used as bait, drowned, microwaved, maimed, set on fire, used as a pinata, mutilated, decapitated, skinned alive, starved, poisoned, bashed, hanged, trained for fights, gambled on, shot, stabbed, neglected, or even just left for dead.” … The Government Destruction of Valuable Forest and Land and Marine Life, and all the Sick Behavior stemming from every ones bad childhood, makes it plain to see who would be abusive parents in the world - and encouraging Abuse & the Killing of beautiful innocent beings. We in the World are Watching You And Need You to do something. And we will take HARD action AS WELL.. WE CAN’T SLEEP AT NIGHT!!! PEOPLE WHO KILL ARE NOT HAPPY WITH THEIR LIVES AND ARE KNOWN FOR ABUSING CHILDREN.. People who do these things to innocent animals & Creatures (who scream and cry and feel the pain), hardly feel the screaming, crying or pain of other human beings who suffer (for other reasons) and should be arrested and put in jail. And I will work on this to happen. OH YES I WILL!! Just as all Hunters will work forever to be able to Hunt what ever beautiful Animal they want… STILL!! “Hunting is not a "sport' in the true sense of the word. A sport is when your opponent has the same options to beat you at a game or contest as you do to beat them.” As we “The Good People & Parents” teach as many kids as we can, when ever we can “THAT THIS IS WRONG”, and that you know the reasons why, but we wait for you to do something about it. We Know You Can Do This... JUST PUT YOUR FOOT DOWN AND LET OTHERS KNOW YOU HAVE 0 TOLLERANCE FOR ALL CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY AND ANIMAL. It’s crimes against humanity because it’s humanity doing the crime against us by killing our animals, now they should be doing the time…

1,183 12:42 pm PDT, Sep 16 Mr. Chris Sciacca 19 Male Colorado I have two pit mixes. Bettie and Sophie. Bettie since she was a puppie and Sophie when she was one from the pound. I work in Denver and have to move up there soon. I have been forced to look for a house just outside of Denver because I love my dogs and I don't want to give them up. This really needs to change. It's hard to believe that people do things like outlaw a breed of dog. Please remove this ban. It's reckless and cruel.
1,181 5:56 am PDT, Sep 6   Barbara Lavrik 45 Female North Carolina Killing the pitbulls for no reason at all is inhumane. If they have not posed any threat to the public or have some incurable illness than what would be the reason ? Do we kill mass murderers or serial killers whom have done repeated acts of violence against human beings? The answer is no , so why to a poor animnal that you think might pose a threat ? I am strongly against this and hope it does not go through !
1,180 10:13 am PDT, Aug 19   Cindy Hanson 49 Female Minnesota I adopted my pitbull "Sammy" from the humane society when he was about 1 yr. He has been the best mannered, well-behaved dog I've ever had the pleasure of residing in my home. He's a bit of a baby, which is fine by me, but also very stoic. Never has he growled, bared his teeth, chased, or in any other fashion, terrorized another animal or human. I love him with all my heart! Putting dogs down for the awful behavior of some morons who do not know or care how to raise a dog with love is shameful.
1,179 1:38 am PDT, Aug 17 Ms. Jeramie Dreyfuss 59 Female Idaho This is beyond cruel and unbelievable that American's could single out and destroy a single breed of animals who are wonderful pets in the right hands. Punish severely the criminals who have mistreated these dogs and used them for fighting but don;t punish pet owners who love and adore their pets and these dogs are probably the best companions around. Please don't kill these innocent dogs.

I was once afraid of pitbulls, as well, until I started to learn the true facts. Pit bulls are incredibly intellegent and loveing dogs who unfortunately appeal most often to people who can't even take care of themselves and shouldn't be allowed to own a pet of any size or breed!
1,165 7:31 am PDT, May 12 Ms. Gianyna Chuong 18 Female   Pitbulls deserve the right to live! It's not their fault they're the way they are! HUMANS made them that way by breeding them! They deserve to live! POOR DOGGIES :(

1,162 3:55 pm PDT, Apr 23   Rebecca Kidd 27 Female Colorado My dog Tyler is the best dog in the world. He love children, strangers, everyone. He likes to sleep in, in the morning wrapped up in his blanky and loves a bed time story. He likes to sit in your lap and give big wet sloppy kisses. I have had several other breeds of dogs and is the smartest off all. I think pit bulls are extermly loyal to thier owners and will do anything for them even if the owner has bad intentions. It is sad to see a whole breed of animal suffer for the mistakes of a few. I believe that pet owners are aware of what thier animals are capable off and should be held accountable for thier behavior. There are other options to solving this problem. Perhaps owners could be responsable for having a pit bull license just like you need a liscense to own a gun.

In the 1800's Pitbulls were considered the ideal Loyal pet, what happened to that? I have worked in a shelter, the only time a Pitbull would hurt a flea is if it was beaten until it did what the cruel owner wanted it to. Save The Pit Bulls in Denver!

On Monday, May 9, 2005, the Denver Division of Animal Control began enforcing a city-wide ban on owning pit bull terriers, and initiated an aggressive campaign of seizing beloved family pets, and killing them against their owner’s will. This ordinance is an indiscriminant ban that demands the eradication and disposal of ALL dogs that are classified as pit bulls or pit bull mixes, even if the dog has never done anything wrong, and consistently remains confined to the owner’s property. Dog owners who refuse to surrender their pets face up to a year in jail and a $999 fine.

This ordinance also bans shelters and humane societies from “harboring” pit bulls, and even goes so far as to forbid any US resident from transporting a pit bull through Denver without a permit. The ordinance does allow for pits to be kept if residents meet certain requirements; such as increased annual registration fees, maintaining a $100,000 liability insurance policy, and keeping the dog muzzled and leashed at all times when it is off the owner’s property—but only if the resident registered the dog prior to January 1, 1990. Dogs born or transferred to Denver after that date do not qualify for the exemption.

In the first few years there were several legal battles regarding the ban. However, in November of 1991, the Colorado Supreme Court upheld the ban when it declared that the Denver ordinance did not violate the state constitution.*

WE THE UNDERSIGNED:
Are deeply dismayed by the horrible canine genocide that is currently taking place in Denver, Colorado. While the city ordinance prohibiting pit bull dogs may be in line with the letter of the law, the manner in which Denver is enforcing this ban is a grievous injustice to family pets, and deeply offensive to the hearts and minds of pet owners everywhere.

We support and acknowledge the right of Denver’s citizens to govern them selves, and make no attempt to infringe upon that right. The people of Denver can pass whatever ordinances they need or want, as long as they are in compliance with both the Colorado State Constitution and the US Constitution, and possess a reasonable sense of fairness and justice. However, we believe that forcing people to surrender their dogs against their will is neither fair nor just, and is an affront to our sense of common decency. In the presence of such an injustice we believe that our voices must be heard.

We are not so naïve as to believe that we live in a world where dangerous and aggressive animals will not have to be euthanized to protect the public. While there is justification to address animal aggression and safety in our communities, a broad-sweeping ban such as this one is neither humane nor effective. We firmly believe that this program of seizing and executing family pets is wrong because:

· It debases the lives of beloved family dogs—rendering them of no more value than vermin to be eradicated.

· The United States already faces an overwhelming epidemic of unwanted pets. Seizing pets that already have homes is unwarranted, heinous, and cruel.

· It is misguided. The argument that innocent dogs must be destroyed because it is thought they might harm someone lacks merit. We don’t execute people for what they might do, because it is inherently unfair and unjust to do so. This same logic should apply to our family dogs.

· It only victimizes and criminalizes. It fails to promote good citizenship or responsible pet ownership because it does not engage the public and the pet owners in creative and sustainable solutions when dealing with potential dog aggression. The burden of responsible pet ownership is upon the owner, not the animal.

Therefore, we respectfully ask that Denver cease and desist their policy of killing innocent pit bull dogs.

Additionally, in order to promote ethical and humane solutions that protect the lives of animals and people, we believe that some or all of the following suggestions be taken under serious advisement, and hopefully implemented by the people of Denver as quickly as possible:

· Number 1: Since it has already been determined that the ban is not unconstitutional, we request that the city of Denver legally reverse the ban. If reversing the ban is not possible, we ask that you make exemptions for living pets.

· Number 2: Shut down dog fighting rings. Dog fighters deliberately breed aggression into dogs, and frequently abandon unwanted dogs to the streets. Purging the city of this cruel blood sport would be an important first step.

· Number 3: Create and enforce stricter leash laws. Increase the punitive fines with which citizens who fail to curb their pets can be charged, and address dog aggression and attacks on a case-by-case basis.

· Number 4: Redirect the money spent on confiscating and killing innocent dogs into pro-active programs that promote humane and responsible pet ownership and training, as well as community dog bite prevention programs for children and adults.

It should not be supposed that because we oppose this ban, that we do not care equally about public safety and the effectiveness and necessity of responsible animal control. Protecting people and protecting animals can be mutually inclusive goals. By working together, we can make a positive difference in the lives of pets and people.
