92 10:28 pm PDT, Jun 1 Archie Larsen California United States What a farce! It's sad that care2 allows tripe like this to degrade their site. I'm a native Californian, and I hope my legislators understand that Californians do not want kangaroo meat in their stores. Any representative that votes for this claptrap will have to answer for it at the polls.
91 4:44 am PDT, Jun 1 Solent of Solentcia   United Kingdom I am not a vegetarian or from the USA, but I am an omnivore. I enjoy most cooked meats and most vegetables. However, like most humans, my digestive system can only cope with some of the vegetable matter that grows in this world. Animals on the other hand can easily convert nearly all vegetation into flesh and hence energy for us humans. I have not been offered the opportunity to try kangaroo meat but given the chance, I will. If some police forces in the US of A are issued kangaroo hide shoes, then why is their meat restricted??

88 3:19 pm PDT, May 31 Lorraine Emanuele California United States I am not a vegetarian, but I was one for three years. My reason for quitting meat when I did was the inhumane treatment of farmed animals. I have seen emu farms here in California, and they are thriving. If we allow the farming of emus (which are certainly not indigenous to California), and we allow the import of New Zealand lamb (who eats baby animals, that's horrendous!), and if they sell buffalo burgers at Buffalo Bill's in Julian, California (which I frequent, but not for buffalo) and many other restaurants, I don't understand why should we have a ban on kangaroo meat. It seems like hypocrisy to me. I urge my representatives to look further into the premises of the ethical debate which produced the ban on kangaroo meat in the first place and reconsider them. If you find that there are contradictions, one way or another, I urge you to work toward a more consistent policy regarding all game meat sales. Thank you.
87 11:29 am PDT, May 31 Marc Gartmann   Netherlands Yes, but I do not see the difference between eating roo meat, or cow, or pigs. People will not stop eating meat because I don't. If kangaroo is better for your health and the environment, and they are treated better then their factory farmed buddies like chicken, or pigs, etc..., why not. Enjoy your Skippy, and I hope you say grace before dinner.

67 6:40 pm PDT, Apr 21 Bruce Hogben   Australia Before Europeans arrived in Australia, the country had not a single hoof. Now it has feral camels, buffalo, goats and more, and cattle and sheep farming legally destroys the landscape. Kangaroos exist in their millions and are hardy, soft-footed and adapted to the environment.. They do not wreck it. It's just common sense at so many levels to switch to roo farming.
66 4:29 am PDT, Mar 29 T. Williams   Australia No. Lets nurture mother nature and rejoice in the circle of life. Kangaroo is native to Australia, and thus is a natural, healthy re-newable resouce that should be embraced. Roo hunting is a regulated and required Aussie industry.

64 2:04 am PST, Feb 16 Elainna Crowell Armed Forces Americas Canada No and I believe roo meat is far healthier (lower in fat). Besides raising kangaroos for meat and their hides is much better for the environment, since their hoofs do not compact the soil like cows and their grazing is far easier on the grass lands as well

Allow roo meat into California

We the undersigned call upon the Californian legislature to remove the ban on kangaroo meat sales. This ban was introduced because a senator's wife came to believe that they are endangered. The kangaroo harvest in Australia is both sustainable and ethical. Banning Kangaroo meat while importing Australian beef reinforces the economic conditions that are causing the destruction of our farmland. Most of our land is too fragile to support cattle farming because of the destructive nature of cattle. With your help we can hasten the day when our land is returned to it's native animals. Healthy, lean, free range, pesticide, drug, chemical and hormone free aussie roo meat, harvested in a sustainable and humane manner, is the sensible and ethical alternative to feedlots and tortured baby cows.
